Beckett
Josh looked good for four innings, but was gassed for the 5th. Francona left him in after a walk to Rios to face Wells, who owns Beckett (and had already homered). Beckett walked Wells on 4 pitches to load the bases, then Delcarmen gives up the grand slam to Big Frank. The numbers look abysmal, but ...

No to be confused at all with former KC OF Pete LaCock, who incidentally was the son of "Hollywood Squares" host Peter Marshall. Yes, his full name was likely Peter LaCock. Imagine the crap he caught in gym class...

Melky Cabrera was awfully productive last year as a fourth OF - I think it takes a team that is up there in years and somewhat injury prone (e.g., Yankees last year).

All Star Stats was great about 3 years ago when I last used them, but they're on the expensive side.

KDS Preferences For 2008
Greg, I was one of the few who requested 11 (and got it). I was hoping that Crawford would fall to 11 and that either Soriano or Pujols would be available after the turn. In an amazing turn of events, that's exactly what happened. By the way, the "Curse of Brady" lives. Three of my pitchers (Lackey,...

Where do you view boxscores online?
Just wondering about the best place to check out boxscores online... In the past, I have used CBS Sportsline, ESPN, and CNN-SI to bounce from boxscore to boxscore as they are updated real time. Does anyone have any other sites they use/like? Thanks in advance for any suggestions you might offer...

Maybe we should just use some stock market terminology... Buy - a free agent who should be picked up Sell - dead or nearly dead spot on your roster Blue Chip - Player acquired in 1st 5 rounds (draft) or generally for a Salary exceeding $20 (auction) Hold - Most players on your roster that are not ca...

LV10, the Pollcats drafted Nick Johnson at Corner but Dan Johnson was keyed in instead. Otherwise, Pollcats are ready to start the annual wholescale dismantling of their team.

Should We Provide Food On Draft Day?
Greg, Save the money and skip the food. However, I keep reading about people having battery issues with laptops - why not have power available at the tables for the main event? Even if you have to charge a reasonable surcharge to laptop users who want power - I would gladly pay for the privilege.

Hitless, Thanks for the comments. I'm expecting Salty to spend time at 1B, DH, and catch two days a week to spell Laird. If he gets sent down early (as rumored), I picked up Brian Schneider for catching depth. Second relievers went quick, so I gambled with Accardo. Again, FAAB dollars can help with ...

NFBC Ultimate Auction League
KJD, I agree on the "one pitcher too far" viewpoint. I loved Matt Cain, but should have passed after the other pitchers came my way. I never anticipated getting Lackey early for $12 (or Lackey at all, for that matter). The other thing that was weird was getting Posada and Johjima as cheap as I did. ...

I had a great time too conducting my bold experiment with respect to contrarian bidding in an auction. In other words, I bought discount pitching while the hitters were being scarfed up. It remains to be seen how it will work out. It seems like a great group of guys and I hope this season is excitin...

I agree that Hermida and Feliz were great value picks - Hermida would have been gone at 12-5 to me if you hadn't grabbed him.
I was pretty happy with Beckett at 5-11. I'm pretty happy with my team, but we'll have to see how the injuries play out.

Is this enough offense?
Captain, My split was an ungodly 141 for pitching, 119 for hitting. There was a ton of overpaying for hitting early. Once I got in for a penny...well, you know the rest. As the other owners started scrambling for pitching, I got some good bargains on hitters (e.g., Fukudome for $6). As I see it, my ...

In the LV Ultimate Auction, I got extremely rich in Pitching and ended up with the following pitching staff: Bedard Lackey Beckett Smoltz Lincecum Cain Nathan Rivera Soria As you might imagine, this was at the expense of offense that looks like this: C Posada C Johjima 1B Kotchman 2B A. Hill SS Y. B...

No, not HRs and SBs.... Greg, 1. Will there be power available for laptop users for the Main Event and Ultimate Auction? 2. If I'm pretty adept, will I be able to keep up with everyone's picks on the computer during the Main Event? Auctions are no problem, but I have no idea on the speed of a draft ...

Tell me what you think about this mock
Wayne, Thanks for your thoughts. There was a run on CM - hence, my draft of Reynolds a couple of rounds earlier than I would have liked. OF was thin too, as evidenced by an unknown quantity like Fukudome being the best option in the next round. By the way, is there any way to say "Fukudome" without ...

As an owner attempting to recover from a disaster last season, I've been hitting the mock drafts pretty hard. Is there a good site for online mock auctions? I used fantasyauctioneer.com last year, but the site seems to have changed this year and I have yet to find an NFBC auction for practice. Any i...

Mock Draft Feedback
Thanks to all for the excellent feedback - a few notes... Is Pujols really too early at R1P4? If ARod, Hanley, and Wright go 1-2-3, who should go next? Reyes? Rollins? Holliday? Bonds? (just kidding on that last one) In retrospect, I should have gone with speed instead of Chipper at 3, and probably ...

Mock Draft Feedback
I recently completed a mock draft and would appreciate any feedback from more experienced drafters. NFBC format, 15 teams, I drafted in the #4 spot. Speed and Saves went quite early in this draft. My team last year reeked, mainly due to my mistakes (can you say Rich Harden?). Thanks in advance for a...
