Re: Slow Drafts
In a brutal draft right now. The first 20 or so rounds were decent, not great, but the last 20 have been pretty brutal. Alternative draft idea: Give everybody a set amount of time for their entire 50 rounds (36-48 hours per person?). If you run out of that clock, you have 1 minute/pick for the rest ...

Oh boy.. I just seen a Carlos Rondon drafted in the 45th round of my league. The problem is somebody else already used a placeholder on Carlos Rodon in the 32nd round.

Shouldn't he be 1B eligible? Played 44 games there for Tacoma last year.

Re: Presenting YOUR 125K team
I can't imagine any scenario where a team going 9 pitchers in a row from Rounds #1 to #9, is going to have success in a 15 teamer. I imagine he went average heavy with his hitters so ideally he'd like to win every pitching category (75 points) and win batting average (90) and hope to scratch a few p...

A tad different in a league where you can trade vs a 50-round DC.

Re: Rotoworld.com Magazine Industry Draft
Basics:
15 teams need 6 Starting Pitchers (90) ... There are 30 teams with 5 starting pitchers (150). +60
15 teams need 5 Outfielders (75) ... There are 30 teams with 3 outfielders (90). When you consider that a number of these guys are platoons, the pickings get even more interesting.

Re: Live Chat With Greg & Tom, Friday 2 pm ET
My 50-round advice would be to draft predominantly veteran players in the first half of the draft. Avoid single category specialists. Don't draft a guy who might just give you 50 SBs and not much else. I'll take a whole squad of .268, 19 HR, 10 SB guys. I like guys with atleast 3 solid years under t...

Re: 2014 Early Season Draft Results
I don't think the gap is nearly as large as made out to be. Dodgers had a Top 5 defense last season and the infield defense is significantly weaker with Ellis and Punto gone, replaced by this Cuban kid Guerrero. Juan Uribe is a defensive stud, he had a healthy year for once, but he's aging and his g...

Last year's Kershaw ADP, 2.02 .... same pitcher, unlikely to achieve last year's numbers.

Re: 2014 Early Season Draft Results
$150 DC 21 All never get value like that, cause there is no way I'd ever let him slip past my pick in the first round (13 slot) in this example And the number 13 drafter will be considered smart for picking Kershaw. While others will think otherwise knowing he passed him in the first round. Sometim...

Anything less than 4 HR would definently require alot of Auto Pick which most people don't like. If you want something that fast, just hold more DC Express (1 minute).

Re: 2014 Early Season Draft Results
One could take an ADP list and an Excel spreadsheet and test 100 different gimmick teams to see if any would be successful without risking $150 on it in a real draft.

Re: Larry Schechter Book Announcement
I don't think anyone is advocating drafting BPA if you have all your positions filled for that guy. This year I can think of a SS that is going in the 13th round this year that should be going in the 9th/10th round. I might pass a fair-value SS (lets say Hanley Ramirez) with the 6th or 7th pick with...

Re: Larry Schechter Book Announcement
I think what he's saying is that it's very difficult to have a set of projections that are better than any other set of projections. The idea is to have a consensus of these projections and draft guys are dropping in the draft below these consensus numbers. Guys who drop into the value area are usua...

Re: 2014 Early Season Draft Results
JMO, but I won't be taking Goldschmidt ahead of Davis. I think there's a good chance they put the stoplight on his base stealing after getting nabbed 7/22 last year and Trumbo likely batting behind him. Would be shocked if he got 10 SBs next year. Chris Davis seems like a safer bet to me. I'll give ...

Re: Where Did The Value Come From In 2012?
From that bargain list, I had both Murphy and Marte and they definently were a huge part of my win. Other key moments in my draft: Had the swing pick at 15/16. I wanted a second baseman and took Pedroia at 16 when everyone had Kinsler higher. Pedroia ended up 5th among 2Bs, Kinsler 7th. For my 0.5 p...

I believe Hanley Ramirez should be going 5-6 clicks higher. I have him as a mid first rounder, he's not slipping past me at 10 that's for sure.

If a couple dozen more guys get 50-games to start the year, the 2014 fantasy drafts will be absolutely fascinating in terms of strategy.

Re: Sharing Knowledge Thread
I've never won a league by totally punting a category. Strategically aiming for a mid-table finish in a certain category? That's fine. Tanking one in order to strengthen all the others? Mistake IMO. Too many categories relate to each other (i.e. Saves --> ERA+WHIP, Wins --> Ks, HRs --> RBIs) If you ...

Re: Sharing Knowledge Thread
Here are a few concepts I'm embracing going forward: treat health as a skill; don't pay for a career year; don't punt any categories; never pay for a rookie closer; keep up with international prospects. There are plenty of others but let's see if others are sharing :) Excellent advice in here IMO..

If we allow a scoring period after 162 fine.. Just do it every year. Even if the season ends on Wednesday.

Re: Shandler: Trout's Decline Was Expected
To me the projection game is impossible to perfect and everybody is going to have misses. Shandler knows this. He's owned up to plenty of his mistakes in the past. Flip through the 2011, 25 year anniversary book and he recaps plenty of his blown calls. But I do agree that the small-sample "I told yo...
