Week 9 FAAB Bids
SlackerDan: Did you have conditional bids for other players that would have gone into effect if not for the Bonds bid? Greg: Suppose Dan had a winning bid for Ryan Wagner as his conditional bid. Would you then give Wagner to Dan and take him away from whoever had won him originally? How would such a...

How foolish is the save catergory
With individual closers who maintain their jobs, it's hard to predict their saves total just like it's hard to predict win totals for a starting pitcher. But the difference is that relivers can go from 30th round value to 10th round value overnight. Urbina could be worthless all year or tomorrow he ...

How foolish is the save catergory
Saves greatly increase the amount of luck and randomness in the game. Fantasy baseball would be more of a contest of skill without the saves category.

Viper, I agree that category and position scarcity are overpaid for, but it’s the same way in the drafts. Additionally, there are a couple problems with using average draft position. First, the difference in value in consecutive picks decreases as the pick number increases. For example, the differen...

Lance,
There are some players at the very end of the auction who go for unusual values. But because I used the median values from the 4 auctions, the outlier values are ignored. Jacque Jones went for just $2 in one auction but that outlier did not affect the dollar value I used for him--7.5.

ToddZ: I appreciate the criticisms as I acknowledge that there are numerous flaws with using mixed league auction values as the player values. The system is dependent on the quality of owners in the auction leagues. If there were too many poor owners in the auctions, the values will be off. But I do...

Who had the best draft? What were the best (and worst) draft picks? What is the best draft position? I attempted to answer these questions using player values from the mixed auctions to rate the NFBC teams. You can see my analysis at: http://www.playingthepercentages.com/baseball/nfbc/

More drafting rounds!
To me the reason for needing a longer draft is so that there will be room for some healthy players on your bench once injuries strike. One team in my league is starting off the season with 6 players on the DL. It won't be long before he faces the choice of either dropping someone like Kevin Brown or...

Do You Want To See Runnerup Bids In 2005?
I vote a. By having access to the bids of all the other leagues, you get a sense of the range of bids and more info is not needed. Option c is a very bad idea as I wouldn't want my competition to see which other players are on my "watch list".
