Re: Games cancelled

Gaetan,

There is a good chance that the Yankees-Phillies series will go off.

As for Marlins-Orioles and Cards-Tigers, hope for the best, expect the worst.

One thing Covid cannot be used as an excuse for is Closing games.
Like Covid itself, Closers have become a shitshow unto themselves.
I think closers miss having the fans in the stands more than most players.
Good point, Jim.

Re: The Countdown to 600

Timing is everything for having even 600 games.
For instance, if St. Louis becomes the new Marlins this week, baseball will survive the week.
But if a Marlins, Cardinals, and two other teams all happen at the same time, it'll be awfully hard for baseball to continue.

Re: The Countdown to 600

Mark, I was tentative to even sign up for one Main Event with the 'new season'. I originally was going to do three till Covid came along. The reasoning was that I didn't know how to draft for a 60 game season in a Covid environment. I did foresee a lot of player problems in a pandemic. Talked about ...

Re: The Countdown to 600

Couldn't agree with you more, KJ. Every recent drafter knew the circumstances and possible flurry of postponements. Playing baseball with a pandemic is going to have a lot of hurdles. For some fans and even NFBC drafters, every hurdle seems to be an excuse to 'shut it down'. I'm just happy that base...

Anatomy of a Draft

Opening Day was a week ago. My draft for the Main Event was the night before. Its been long enough where we can talk about a draft in context of the draft itself and the play that has occurred since, You folks know my hated of the words 'value pick'. Tell me, if Acuna or Yelich had dropped to the si...

Hopefully, they can be taken away as they play.
Seeing the red cross by Gallo, Kole Calhoun and other healthy players gives me pause on my rosters. :D

Stuff and Junk

Some Stuff and thoughts about the early going..... There was a subject on the 'Main' subject of the Boards during drafting season about the helium some players were receiving in drafts. Funny thing about helium, it disappears. Corbin Burnes owners suffered as Burnes threw pitch after pitch trying to...

THANK YOU!

Almost 10 months ago to the day, the PreMature League started drafting for the 2020 baseball season. Little did we know that we were drafting a team that would not begin play for almost a year. (A brag for our PreMature Drafters- Without ADP or 'experts' help, our top 13 players and 15 of the top 17...

Re: 2020 and 2.7

Now you are talking....still, there is always that first reaction that makes you feel that you are an integral part of an Abbott & Costello routine "Who's on first?" (OK, valid question for Atlanta) "What's on second?" (Angels) "I don't know is on third." (Texas) "I don't give a darn!" (Shortstop.....

Re: 2020 and 2.7

But the good news, Dan, is that we get to go head-to-head again (8:00 pm ET on the 23rd). Of course, there are some other no-names in the league like Schroter, Smith, Butler, Schechter, Waggener, Childs/Ferrari and Cha (who I already have in two of my three leagues...yeah!!!). Gonna be interesting....

2020 and 2.7

2.7 Each game our players play will be worth 2.7 times the stats of previous seasons. So, if Mike Trout hits four homers in a game this year, it'll have the same effect as hitting 11 because of the shortened season. By the same token, we could recover from a miserable 1 INN, 8 ER start from Wade Mil...

Re: DRAFT!

Honestly, even though the live crowd does have a lot of value...it seems to be a bit over blown. There is the fact that tens of thousands are watching the game on TV. As far as the motivational factor from spectatorship, that should really do wonders for the players even without the 'crowd-noise'! ...

13- Lucky or Unlucky?

I got into another DC Draft. DC's are my choice of weapons leading up to the Main Event. I like no FAAB. I like deep teams. I like drafting for more than a week. In this draft, I KDS'd 1-15 (How imaginative!) I got choice 13. When getting choice 13, you start thinking about Story, Bregman, Ramirez, ...

Re: Woodrow'ing Privacy

This is getting a little silly. "Keone Kela has not reported to Camp, no reason was given..." "Billy Hamilton has not reported, Gabe Kapler could not say why..." It's crap. Mitch Haniger went on the DL List with a ruptured testicle. If anybody had a reason to want privacy for an injury, it's Mitch H...

A Baseball Tribute... The Devil went down to Georgia, he was looking for a soul to steal He was in a bind cuz he was way behind and willing to make a deal When he came upon a young man sawing on pitches, hitting them hot The Devil stepped on a hickory bat and said, "Boy, let me tell you what!" "I gu...

Woodrow'ing Privacy

Woodrow Wilson became deathly ill after World War I finished. As President of a triumphant nation, Wilson was a hero. A hero who suffered a debilitating stroke. Who knew about the stroke? His wife and some medical personnel. Can you imagine? Wilson lived during a time when the press was respectful o...

Re: Processing the News

One thing that I'll post here, that hasn't gotten a lot of publicity... Greg has ruled that we will need an innings minimum from pitchers if the season comes up short. For instance, if the season stops after 40 games (600), we will need 200 IP from our pitchers. So make sure that requirement is look...

Great stuff as always, Dough. Sorry, haven't had the chance to visit this area of the boards in a while and I should more often. On the issue of no fans at the games, I don't see why teams just couldn't just hire some talented DJ's, sound guys, foley artists, etc., and pump in whatever ambient crow...

Processing the News

All of us get mostly the same information at mostly the same time. On that level, we're similar. The major difference in each fantasy player is how we process that information. I'm in two drafts right now. Aaron Nola fell to the fifth round. DJ LeMahieu is still not selected in the seventh round. Sa...

So tough, isn't it? Is it better to have a player with Covid now? During the season while other players are contracting Covid, Freeman and Nola, et al, will (hopefully) have recovered and have resistant antibodies. We're not built for this :D But here we are! A slave to our game, no matter how mangl...

Re: Drafting Without Making a Pick

Just an update on the drafter who did not make a pick.... He still has not shown. I always have a feeling of ambivalence when a drafter doesn't show. My first thought is "Good, maybe a dead in the water team." Second thought, especially when not appearing for days is, "Geez, hope the guy is alright....
