Re: Open Chat With Greg, Tom & Darik

I got a note saying I should re-post my last one from my neck of the woods to here. The last paragraph is more than enough :D 'The owners are putting themselves in front of the game of baseball. The rich history of the game, secondary. Owners first. The game second. When that happens, NOBODY wins. O...

Owners- 30 Integrity- 0

Baseball owners are rich. These fella have made zillions of dollars. Zillions. They can make more in one day on the interest of their money than we can make at our jobs for a year. Now, they can't lend a minor leaguer a hundred bucks. Wow. Their answer is to discard them or not pay them at all as in...

The Void

There is a huge void in each of our lives. Sports was a way of life for us. I live in the Mountain Time Zone. I still think of 11 AM and 5 PM as the time when games should start. It still drives me crazy. Each day during baseball season, my head is filled with the Starting Pitchers for that days gam...

Re: It's Miller Time

Should have been Curt Flood instead. He took all the heat. So agreed. Flood lived it. He was berated by fans, the press, and especially other players. Flood is only remembered by you, I, and others who were around at the time. He was treated as a pariah while Miller lay claim to that of a conquerin...

The Year of Hope

I've had three conversations over the last 24 hours with baseball and fantasy folks who have said this.... "If baseball is not played this year it will be...(insert word here) devastating, horrible, deplorable, catastrophic...all, 10 cent words. I've disagreed with each soul. Baseball has already be...

It's Miller Time

I've thought about Marvin Miller a lot over the past few months. Miller is credited for the system baseball has now. Free agency, higher salaries, stronger player union. Everything that has turned the players into millionaires while the owners are billionaires. Way above my pay grade. Miller was sup...

Re: Crusty Dusty's

Columbo style...(For those not knowing 'Columbo'..... google him) One more thing..... During every Spring Training, I watch Votto closely. Hoping he'll drop the crap of walking over hitting. It is not to be this year kids. He even complained to a Spring Training Umpire over a called strike on a 3-1 ...

Re: Crusty Dusty's

Just for fun (and for validation) I did a comparison of three players mentioned above. I took Pujols aged 35-40 years, Cruz's 34-39 years of age, and Joey Votto's 3--35 years of age. These are the last six years of each of their careers. Three players, each with their own agenda. For Cruz, it is tak...

Re: Winners and Losers

Quite ironic about the Astros, I stayed away from them this year cause I thought they'd get blowback in opposing stadiums. I did the same thing. And from their ADP dropping, a lot of fantasy players felt the same way. Time heals most wounds. I don't think it'll have a large effect for them in 2021.

GM'shave wised up. Kind of. They used to give players long deals in order to roster their good years. The oldest player in baseball is a testament to this. The oldest player in baseball still has two years left on his contract. Albert Pujols has been in the accumulation phase of his career for awhil...

Winners and Losers

Remember before this virus crap started? I know. It seems ages ago. Believe it or not, whether this season is played, there will be winners and losers. Read on..... The Boston Red Sox traded Mookie Betts. For Alex Verdugo and minor leaguers. Boston fans were pissed! How could they trade our home gro...

Re: Talking About Players

I love having disagreements with good drafters. It improves our game. Sometimes. we pick up things about players that we may have back pocketed for a long time. Something we knew but disregarded or forgot over time. Will I draft Olson or Cruz at 3/1 or 5/1? No. Will I draft McCutchen at his going ra...

Re: Talking About Players

Part 2... It's different with Mike Mager and I. I really respect Mike's game. He drafts similar to myself,so it is rare that we disagree on players or methods. Not to say I don't respect your drafting skills, Spiffy   Anyway, Mike and I have been in drafts since he joined the NFBC. He may ...

Talking About Players

We all think we're right when we draft. No matter what player or what round or what method we used to make that pick, we all think it's the right pick. During the course of a season, we will drop a little over half of the players we drafted. This isn't to say we're wrong more than we're right. Somet...

The First Strike in Baseball

I receive these little daily blurbs about what happened in baseball on this date. One caught my attention. I did a little investigation on it. The first strike in baseball history was on this date in 1912. It all happened over an event that had happened three days earlier. Ty Cobb was the Tigers sta...

Fantasy Baseball 2021

What happens to drafts in 2021 if there is no 2020? Nobody really wants to look at that possibility. It feels like giving up on this season. BUT, we are fantasy baseball players and like to plan for any eventuality. A LOT of things will have happened before we draft in 2021. The decision on this yea...

Re: Dylan Carlson

Thanks for the post, Mike. It allows me a rant. :D A year ago I called the Phillies 4-year 50 million dollar deal with McCutchen, a big waste of money. McCutchen's greatest skill, from what I have heard, is tweeting and being good with his computer. Unfortunately, the Phillies don't need another PR ...

The Baseball I know

Almost all of us hope there is a baseball season. We are starved for sports. We are starved for some semblance of normalcy. Dammit, we want these players back on the field. We are selfish sombitches. There are so many things preventing baseball from happening this year that I don't think they could ...

Dylan Carlson

Last night, I selected Dylan Carlson in the 15th round of a Draft Champions. Two questions just popped up in your minds. 1. Why the Hell is he drafting? 2. Why is he taking Carlson so early? I'm drafting because I miss baseball. Badly. I know that I'm probably drafting for nothing. Each day that goe...

Heroes

I'm not gonna lie. I feel sorry for myself. Life without sports is crappy. Classic baseball, simulated baseball...C'mon Man. Axe throwing, bean bag tossing? Those are as close to sports to sports as I am to being a porn star (trust me, you don't want to see it) There's a void in our lives. I'll stil...

Loss, Not Found

There are many things that could keep us from having a baseball season. The owners. The players. Greed. The virus. Logistics. I won't go into each one as my posts tend to run long  but I will touch on a couple... Paramount on this list is the virus and greed. and something not on this list that...

Re: Open Chat With Greg, Tom & Darik

It is true that we did not draft for an 82 game schedule and I can understand the angst. When drafting, we contemplated a 162 game season. That is a good point. At the same time, we all make the choice of how much money we want to put into these contests. To say that $500 or $1000 contestants in dra...

Surly and Slowly

I'm surly. We all live in a 'day-to-day existence and lately it has really gotten to me. Sports was a great outlet for this. Especially fantasy baseball. Crickets. There is axe throwing and bean bag tossing. AXE THROWING AND BEAN BAG TOSSING! Those aren't sports! 'Classic' football, baseball, and ba...

Re: Stuff

Good eye, John! I'd give you the All-Time list for triples, but it's pretty boring. The top 50 is comprised of old players. The two most recent being Stan Musial and Roberto Clemente. The good eye comes with Willie Wilson representing the more modern player in being number 56 on the list. Ever heard...
