Diamond Challenge

Amen. You've got a cadre of thousands of customers who stood by the challenge game format through thick and thin. Many of the NFBC's elite were challenge game players who've doubled up on their success in the draft and auction formats.

LOL ... I guess we're just a bunch of old fogeys ... I mean, FOLKIES

That's an amazing lineup on Wight ... i've seen several of those people/groups live. Had a talk with J.B.S. before a show in a little club in CT about 25 years ago, around the time of Welcome Back.

VIPER -- Indeed ... Streets of London, by the immortal Brit folk-rocker Ralph McTell ... I know it well. Fine performer. Magnificent songwriter. He's a very good friend of the guys from Fairport Convention. Pretty sure I saw him perform it live years ago (like mid/late 80's at one of Fairport's annu...

NFBC Weekly Profile - Ken Magner

Having partnered with Ken over on the Challenge games side almost every year since 2002, I've seen both his week-in/week-out managing skills and his ability to imagine who that unheralded gem producer will be. And as for Kenny The Chip chiming in with great ideas ... trust me, this has been going on...

Going back to that first year he was with the Mariners, Sasaki "lost" his closer job very early into the season. Within a week and two quality innings Sweet Lou had him right back in the role. Don't remember if he led the AL in saves or not, but if not he was pretty darn close, with good decimals an...

The Diary of Punting Saves

I've seen you do the Saves Punting thing in IC a couple of times and you do it well, when you choose to. So this, while not originally intended, is going to be interesting given your track record. Good luck and keep us posted on how the experiment is going.

Utterly Ridiculous

I'll say from experience ... If you're the guy with the stack of pitching stickers and that's where you've been focusing the last couple of picks it really doesn't take long to find the next one and slap it up there !

Very interesting thread ... it will be interesting to see a season's end recap of how this league performed OA. It strikes me that the couple of guys who were trying to use their full time allotment may be very "process oriented" decision makers. Their "process" works well for them, and while they'l...

Special Diamond Challenge League (115) for NFBC Double Play

NFBC'ers ... as a long time (since 1996) DC (and IC) player, if you've never tried it I highly recommend you try the Diamond Challenge and take advantage of Charlie's attractive offer. You can have anybody you want (just not everybody you want, due to the cap). No missing out on a guy you desperatel...

Atlantic City

I'm pretty sure there would be "tour buses" out of Grand Central down to the casino doorsteps in A.C. Years ago I was driving from CT down to run the Atlantic City marathon when my clutch went out just past the Tappan Zee Bridge, close to where I grew up. Wound up getting a transit bus into NYC, the...

"Projection" simply requires fewer syllables than "expected value". While reasoned determination of a range for expected value for ballplayers is a lot like valuing stocks, especially in that at best you're going to hit more often than miss and some of the failures are going to be spectacular, it st...

Did Anyone Get Fantasy Sports Magazine Yet?

Magazine came today. Fanball did a very nice job with it ... enjoyed all sections. Like many of the other "not a teenager anymore" guys, I do wish the font used for the player projections had been a little bigger and on a neutral background. Who says baseball is a kids game? Astigmatically yours, Cl...

Fantasyland

Very entertaining book, really captures the way the fantasy games capture you and chronicles the origins of the games and the evolution of statistical analysis ... but it presents what is essentially a 12-man invitational as being a "national championship". It's a serious competition ... of course. ...

2009 NFBC Champion Profile - Lindy Hinkelman

Lest no one think that Lindy's fantasy baseball success is an all of a sudden thing, do realize that he was one of the best Diamond Challenge players for many years before the "NFBC Era" came along, with (if I recall correctly) a highest finish of #3 OA back in the days when the number of DC entries...

LINDY - Greatest Roto-feat ever, my friend. I'm hoping I can be there to add two more hands to the standing ovation you should get next March.
