Expert's Repeatability

'Experts' who do projections have a pretty easy job in doing their figuring. For the most part, they follow the path and trends of a players past and project the same to happen in the future. Some are swayed by analytics. Heck, if throwing the ball hard from 60 feet, six inches, The Baseball Forecas...

Re: Universal...but sad!

In NFBC rules, he is diminished in that his owners must choose whether to pitch him or hit him each week. We have game 163 because ,supposedly, all stats must count. But we can't even count on ALL of Ohtani's stats. Go figure.  And I thought yesterday was a bad day. Go figure. Yester...

Re: Universal...but sad!

I'm slightly torn. Fantasy-wise, THANK YOU! A hitting pitcher has no place in fantasy baseball. Hell, even when we do have a great hitting pitcher who can hit like Shohei Ohtani, no fantasy sites really know how to treat him. In NFBC rules, he is diminished in that his owners must choose whether to ...

Re: John Pausma Is The 8th Inductee To The NFBC Hall of Fame

A better player could not possibly have been picked. John has been one of the most consistent winners year after year. He also wins on the Dark Side (but I won't hold that against him :) ) On top of everything else, John is one of the easier NFBC players to root for. A quiet assassin with a quick sm...

Re: No News Is Good News

Since the media is making the future, the news of the day...Let's do it here in the NFBC "Live Event Drafters Possibly Getting Screwed" That would be a media headline of today. Let me explain. The Live Events are scheduled for March 19 in Chicago, New York, and Las Vegas. And again, March 26 in Las ...

No News Is Good News

Allow me to go off topic here for a bit....Sorry in advance I'm old. So old that when being a kid, I was afraid for America. And of course, being a kid, for my own mortality. The neighbor next door was having a bomb shelter installed under his house. He told my Dad that he was crazy for not doing th...

Re: 2022 and Carlos Marmol

We have such a love/hate relationship with Closers. In-season, we pray for our Closers team to be ahead by three runs or less going into the ninth inning. We curse the team for scoring an extra run. Our Closer has already warmed up and enters the game with a four run lead. To the fans of the team, w...

2022 and Carlos Marmol

It was 2009. I was studying hard before the Main Event. Like every year, THIS was going to be the year! I had all the players that I wanted in my notebook. I had a plan. Everything set........except one thing. The Chicago Cubs had not named a Closer. Carlos Marmol was a fantasy dream. He had been se...

Loved the music, personality, and just the fact that he was a regular guy. We were talking in Vegas after a Main Event draft. He showed me his roster and said, "My team is so good, I don't know who I'll bench!" Then asked, "Who would you start the first week?" As I replied, a handler of his told Mea...

Re: Mondesi, Buxton, and Tits

This draft season, we seem to be focused on two categories. One from the offensive side, one from the pitching side. I have never seen Closers, especially Closers that aren't that special go so high in drafts. It is all about supply and demand. So few of the Closers jobs have been anointed that we g...

Re: Mondesi, Buxton, and Tits

They do give remarkable production when on the field. But, in seven years, Buxton has played in 48 percent of games. Mondesi, 39 percent. That could change, sure. But it is just as likely that they will play even less. One thing is for sure, I have never heard a drafter say, "I sure am glad I drafte...

Re: Mondesi, Buxton, and Tits

You know what players we love most in fantasy baseball? The one's that don't screw us! It's part of the reason for our love for prospects. If a player hasn't played in the Majors, he hasn't screwed us. He has also never failed. In the previous post, I talked about how Buxton and Mondesi have failed ...

Mondesi, Buxton, and Tits

We NFBC Baseball drafters are a fickle bunch. Fickle. I'm going to start a series over the next few days comparing or talking about certain players. I'll list pros and cons and other stuff about these players. Just no analytics. If wanting analytics, go pay for it or better yet, listen to a number o...

A pretty easy pass for me.
He hit .220 over the last three months of the season and didn't seem to adjust to what pitchers were doing to him.
The FIFO LIFO thing...
Intriguing that he stole seven bases in September... :|

Re: LIFO and Fantasy

James, I saw your post about Adolis Garcia. He is a FIFO player in that he had a great first half, but ended up like crap.
If reversed, he would be going in the first five rounds.
Subjectively, he reminds me of Aristedes Aquino. :D

Re: LIFO and Fantasy

Very well could be, Ante. Sometimes we fantasy folks let greed override common sense. I don't want to pick on the Forecaster here....but I will  Last year, analytical folks loved guys like Karinchak. Same with Emilio Pagan. Most fantasy folks gave the Padres job to Pagan. He was taken high in e...

FIFO (“First-In, First-Out”) assumes that the oldest products in a company's inventory have been sold first and goes by those production costs. LIFO (“Last-In, First-Out”) assumes that the most recent products in a company's inventory have been sold first and uses those costs instead. We in the fant...

Fit To Be Tied

Pissy mood today so bear with me.... Today I see this... "USA Today reports that there are no negotiations currently scheduled between MLB and the MLBPA. " And it pisses me right off. Look, I know there won't be an agreement soon. I have no inklings of there even being a deal in January. Then I aske...

The format is awesome, really.
With the CBA, it has to make things wonky for Kevin.
Great concept. Hopefully, somehow, it'll still be played this year.

Our New Off-Season

I thought I would be suffering during this off season. No transactions! What is a fantasy guy to do? What does he have to look forward to? Truth is, I haven't missed them. In fact, I think it was worse when transactions would trickle in through the draft season. Maybe it is knowing why there are no ...

Merry Christmas NFBC Folks! I know with the CBA that some of us think we have coal in our stockings, but there are some presents received from it... For instance, never have we been able to buy any magazine without zillions of changes already being made through transactions of players. Now, any maga...

Re: NFBC Rank & ADP Influence

Greg, I know I've asked this question to you over beers at Mustang Harry's in NYC, but how again is pre-ADP "Rank" determined? I'm noticing that however players are ranked before ADP is established - whoever makes those decisions - very highly influences how owners are picking players. For example,...

Re: FOMO

I received some texts about this post. Am I chastising early drafters for taking Closers so early? Hell yes. As a posh English Aristocrat would say, "Oh come now, that is really beneath our standards." Or as I would say, "What are you, ...Stupid?" One text received was from a drafter who took Emmanu...

FOMO

Early drafts have been amusing. Downright funny sometimes. There is a text code called FOMO. The fear of missing out. Early drafters are living by that credo. They have made Closers a valuable asset. Closers are nice. We all know we need a couple to be in the running for an Overall Championship. At ...
