FIVE - is this enough FAAB for the rest of the way
In Chicago #2, the lowest has 542 left (mainly spent on Brower - $226, and T. Jones - $115) followed closely by me (spent on W. Taveras - $201, Herges - $188, and J. Tavarez - $51). Everyone else has more than $700 left.

How foolish is the save catergory
For what it is worth, I agree with Viper. Taken one step further, the number of saves I can predict for my team is much easier for me than wins, though it is a matter of degree. Yes, there are those out there with Armando, Izzy, Aquino, Affeldt, any Cubs pitcher who is breathing, or any combination ...

I wish I played in Vegas 9
Interesting on Herges (I got him Chi #2 for 188, runner up bid of 109), in the NFBC 20 leagues, there were at least 32 bids of 100 or more, at least 20 greater than 175, 15 greater than 200, and two greater than 300. In thirteen of the leagues, both the winning and runner up bid was over 100, and in...

The Worst luck
No matter where you are in the standings today, keep plugging. Last year on April 25th, I was in 195th (out of 195) place and managing my team SOOOO well(why yes, I think Kurt Ainsworth will have a breakout year, and yes, thank you, I think I will waive Tim Worrell, and hmmmm, I think Jason Giambi w...

Luck - Early Version
In some earlier topics, some wise and gifted Fantasy Baseball connoisseurs took exception to the concept of "luck" in relation to how well a team would do. The well-taken point was you generally make your own luck. Well, I drafted with my own (mis)concieved strategy and, though I am in the midst of ...

Rating the NFBC drafts
Puffins, as has been discussed before in so many threads, it depends. Was there a 2B/MI run? Was the sixth round pick from an early, middle or late pick (i.e. me at 14 initially would have to wait 26 players between my 6th round and 7th round pick). Of course, when I got Roberts last year, he was ab...

Rating the NFBC drafts
Malloy's Truth Seekers...yes, I whole-heartedly agree. Chicago #2 as a whole was much better prepared with many more very sound drafts than LV #4 last year...and that is saying something since last year we had CC's Desparados in our league who pretty much cleaned our clocks. I believe I understand a...

GUYS, Who are your Best and Worst players so Far??
I didn't put my disappointments so far. Certainly Renteria (2nd) and Rolen (1st), but at least Rolen is showing some life since last weekend.

Rating the NFBC drafts
I think the study is great work, a very good conversation piece, and is only half done. To have any rating (or predictive) value, dollar value based on 2005 performance would have to be done at the end of the year. Once the two lists are compared, methodolgy would be validated within a relevant rang...

Wow! That is some awesome work! Will you update somehow at the end to show actual value vs this projected value? In any event, according to your analysis, I was in the easiest league and still had the 296th worst draft! I only had two (Matsui and Lowe) in the top 1000 and a whopping 8 in the bottom!...

GUYS, Who are your Best and Worst players so Far??
Several of the guys on offense are exceeding expectations. Matsui (5th round), Vidro (7th), Lugo (10th) and Vizquel (22nd) are all giving stats certainly above where I drafted them. I wish I could claim Alfonzo (25th) too, but he is on my bench. Dooooh! My pitchers are all performing about as I expe...

Question Of The Week: Who Is Earliest Surprise?
My vote goes to Roberts. At no time in the majors has he given the impression that he could hit four homers in two weeks. That is a season worth for him.
Now, the question is will he be at the head of the list in late September when Greg askes "Who should win the 'Tuffy' award for 2005?"

Who Let The Dogs Out?
King of Queens, I think that Rolen was a solid pick at 14. Obviously every person in baseball was available except for the previous 13 (first round for Chicago 2 was pretty normal...no huge surprises). Renteria at number 17 was definetly me leading with my heart and playing a hunch (most leagues had...

Who Let The Dogs Out?
My big dogs are Rolen and Renteria. Sure doesn't help when they were my number 1 and 2 picks. Together they are 9 for 52 (0.173), 4 runs, 5 RBI's and nothing else. Thank goodness it is early. Molina (the Yadier version) is also hurting. I did not expect the second coming of Bench, but I did expect h...

Finally!
I certainly would not have thought that: 1) In the first week of the season I would have actually had to use Jason Johnson. 2) That Jason Johnson would give me my first win (Lowe and Millwood certainly pitched well enough for the W). 3) That Jason Johnson would go 6.2 with 5 hits, 1 BB, no runs, and...

FAAB bids
I went for two free agents. With my lack of speed, I felt I HAD to go after Taveras and did get him for a "bargain" $201. Could've spent $100 less, but felt I could not risk it. That is what you get for a draft day faux pas. I missed out on Jeff DaVanon by $6 (bid $47, went for $52) but that was a f...

**UPDATED** Average Draft Position (Top 90)
Did the same analysis. I ended up with 7 which is not bad picking 14th: Rolen - picked 14, avg 16 Renteria - pick 17, avg 31 (could be oops, could be gamble) Dotel - picked 44, avg 75 (In the middle of our closer run...picked him over Nathan, Benitez, Hoffman, Wagner...another gamble, but a calculat...

Average Draft Positions
Most of you will not agree, I am guessing, but to toss another hat in the ring for the Jeter discussion is Renteria. I see him as BA upside over Jeter, a little less (10?) in runs scored, about the same in HR, and less in SP (again, about 10). However, Renteria may get 25-30 more RBI's than Jeter. R...

You gentlemen have certainly nailed the discussion on Pods vs the Tampa Bay Flyer. MLB scouts should be impressed. I have but a few meager comments to add: 1) Pods is now in a great ballpark, but I do not see a signifant spike in home runs. Last year was a bit of a career HR year for him making repe...
