Re: Ramblings.....

The story is credited to a Rob Neyer in wikipedia but Cy Young was one of three pitchers who threw the ball so fast that in 1893 the pitchers box was backed up 5 feet to its current 60 feet 6 inches. A good definition of a game changing player is one who causes the rules to be changed. Bob Gibson is...

Re: Hamels, Harper, and Politics

In his short minor league career, he was somewhat of a Nuke LaLoosh. Cocky would not be unkind. I don't know who Bryce's Crash Davis was but someone - likely Rizzo - got to him. He has done absolutely nothing to date in the bigs that wasn't pure baseball. I emphasize "to date" because I suspect it w...

Re: Hamels, Harper, and Politics

It may be the code if some people's opinion but I have always felt that the code should be applied if someone has done something at that level of play. Harper did several things in the minors that were wrong. I suspect he was read the riot act. Since he has been brought up to the majors about the on...

The best board in fantasy baseball. Where else can you get both a Janet Guthrie and Mary Tyler Moore reference in the same post?

ESPN Outside the Lines today

The main story appears to be on the defunct World Championship of Fantasy Football. It has to be a rehash of what we all know but it may be interesting to see their take on this.

for us on the outside looking in, after every few rounds, a matrix on the positions taken for each team would be interesting. I'm starting to do one for myself but Todd seems to have worked out placing tables in the thread so maybe he or another can post a matrix after the end of each round. Just a ...

Dough.....fill us in on left-handed throwing catchers sometime. I can't remember any. Were there any? damn, Left-Handed Catchers and Cross-Handed Hitters are two of my four fantasy team names. I did look up the list of LHCs. Not sure if there ever have been any CHH but I bet there have been.

All Time Draft Thread

So much fun to read this. Here are a few observations thru the first three rounds. Round one featured 9 players in the 1900-1910 years. Rounds two and three had only 5. Through three rounds, no player in the 50s had been selected. Roy Campanella changed that in round four. In rounds one and two, onl...

my first comment in this wonderful thread.

Unless I am mistaken, isn't 80 points average? If no one is under 80 but 95 will win, I must assume i missed the most recent update in "new math".

I check the board daily but the only threads I read are those started by Doughboy. This is a good week with three new ones.

Please, oh please, keep up the good work.

keep us AARP types happy. Your best stories involve those players the under-40 crowd do not know. Even your current signature quotes one of the players I grew up with but many here never saw - Ted Kluszewski. I'm proud to say I have been at games that featured Mantle, Maris, Aaron, Mathews, Burdette...

For a variety of reasons, I do not have any NFBC teams this year. I'm just playing in my four local leagues. But I still read the message boards. And every time I get here, I looks for something by you. Please don't stop. It truly adds to my fantasy baseball experience.

Your top 5 songs

Closter Knickerbockers - In the mid-70s, Dick Cerri had a Sunday evening folk music show called Music Americana on WASH in Washington. The first time I heard "Streets of London" was on that show. The song was annually the #1 folk song as voted by listeners for about as long as the show existed. This...

Your top 5 songs

I turn 65 next April. After going through all the songs listed so far, there are just eight of them I even recognize. There may be a few more if I heard them but the title alone wasn't familiar. Not sure if this is a sad commentary or an admission that I still want to live in the 60s. One of my favo...

1099s are required for all misc income over $600. However, they can be filed for any amount if the person filing the 1099s want. By law, you are required to report all income so, even if you received $400 and no 1099 was filed, that income should be reported. The difference is that the IRS can compu...

I believe that Greg said the " Claim Prizes link will be available the week of Nov. 1st" and not that date specifically [see the very first post of this thread]. This could mean as late as November 6. "Nine" might be the better count-down number.

at the short term current interest rates, holding money for an extra month is much less meaningful than it was in days of yore.
