Goodbye Charlie!

Post by Edwards Kings » Mon Jul 06, 2020 5:54 pm

Charles Edward Daniels (October 28, 1936 – July 6, 2020)[5] was an American singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist[6] known for his contributions to Southern rock, country, and bluegrass music. He was best known for his number-one country hit "The Devil Went Down to Georgia".

And a great American. If this song don't fire you up...well, you just don't know what fun is....

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

A Baseball Tribute...

The Devil went down to Georgia, he was looking for a soul to steal
He was in a bind cuz he was way behind and willing to make a deal
When he came upon a young man sawing on pitches, hitting them hot
The Devil stepped on a hickory bat and said, "Boy, let me tell you what!"
"I guess you didn't know it,
but I'm a baseball player too
And if you care to make a dare, I'll make a bet with you
Now, you're a pretty good hitter boy
But give the Devil his due
I'll bet a bat of gold
Against your soul
to think I'm better than you!"
The boy said, "My name's Freddie, and it may be a sin
But I'll take your bet and you're gonna regret cuz I'm the best that's ever been!" (Well, ADP of 18 anyway)

Freddie, pine tar up your bat and hit that ball hard
Cuz Hell's broke loose in Georgia and the Devil deals the cards
Now if you win you get a shiny Louisville Slugger made of gold
But if you lose, the Devil gets your soul

The Devil pointed at the pitcher and said, " I'll start this show!"
And fire flew from the top of his bat, bat and ball producing an evil hiss
After 20 hard hits, the Devil flashed an evil grin. He was vinegar. He was piss
When the Devil was finished, Freddie said, "You're pretty good old son!"
But sit down right there and let me show you how it's done!"
Freddie unleashed power. To left, to Center, and to Right.
Each ball on the Line. Each ball, headed out of sight.
The Devil bowed his head because he knew he'd been beat.
And he laid the golden bat on the ground at Freddie's feet.
Freddie said, "Devil just come on back if you ever wanna try it again
I done told you once, you son of a bitch, I'm the best that's ever been!
(Well, ADP of 18, anyway)

Good Bye Charlie and Get well Freddie!
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!
