Damn Good Dawg!

Post by Edwards Kings » Sun Jun 29, 2008 1:25 am

A moment of silence, if you please! The best mascot (with all due respect to those of other affiliation) in college football died this weekend. Uga VI passed away peacefully at his home in Savannah. Some might say the home was owned by Sonny and Cecelia Seiler, but we all know better.

The sixth in a continous line of pure white Engligh Bulldogs stretching back to 1956, Uga VI will be buried in a marble vault, with his ancestors, in the southwest corner of Sanford Stadium on the campus of the University of Georgia.

The winningest of all the Uga's, during his tenure and as a direct result of his personal coaching skills, Uga VI had a record of 87-27 over nine years including two Presidents, two coaches, three SEC championship games, two SEC championships (which many in the know consider the "real" national championship), five Top Ten AP rankings out of the last six years, nine straight years of Top 25 Rankings (never out of the final rankings during his tenure...see if you can find how many other NCAA Division 1A schools can make that claim), a No. 2 Ranking in 2007 and a No. 3 in 2002.

Damn Good Dawg! Uga VII, a son of Uga VI, will be named shortly after Uga VI's memorial. The tradition continues.

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.
