Re: Rotowire.com Magazine Draft Today
The obvious discussion point is Ryan Braun going to ESPN's Eric Karabell at No. 42 overall. He went with the 12th pick of the 3rd round. Knowing that a suspension of 50 games is possible, would you take him that high? Better yet, where do you think he will go if the suspension remains at 50 games?
I felt if he went late 4th round I might take him, but I didn't expect him to get to No. 57. Thoughts?

Re: Rotowire.com Magazine Draft Today
I like where Lawr was going with his team... Holliday at the end of the 4th probably isn't my style but I see what he's doing. Big BA cushion going into the later rounds, and he picked up a couple of cheaper aces in the 5th and 6th. Love the foundation of that team.
Biggest head scratchers for me were Avila in the 5th and Lowrie in the 6th. Seems way too early to me and I think someone was trying to be cute for the blogs.

Yeah, Lowrie in the 6th is a head scratcher and Stras lasting until end of the 6th is a shocker for me.

Jed Lowrie Round 6!!! WOW Are you kidding me?
Maybe he thought he was drafting Brett Lawrie who was already taken? I hope so at least

Strasburg will be interesting. How much do you want to pay for a 170 inning 10-12 win pitcher who they will be SUPER conservative with in regard to pitch count and how deep he goes into games?southpaw23 wrote:Yeah, Lowrie in the 6th is a head scratcher and Stras lasting until end of the 6th is a shocker for me.

Re: Rotowire.com Magazine Draft Today
We will obviously know before the last of the Main Event Drafts, but if I were slowdrafting or in one of the other early drafts, Ryan Braun I would have no problem taking him in the first round, but given opportunity cost, I would try to take him the round before his current ADP.Greg Ambrosius wrote:The obvious discussion point is Ryan Braun going to ESPN's Eric Karabell at No. 42 overall. My mantra has always been not to gamble in the first round, but I learned a long time ago (more specifically when Rey Diaz was the one in our league who was willing to take the bet on Pujols when all the press was about his elbow) not to draft with blinders on. In short, never say never on taking a chance and Braun is such a talent (even without Fielder) that I would jump on him early. And I think he will beat the wrap.
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

I am leaning the other way on this. Even if it was a prescribed med that caused the high reading, doesn't MLB require you tell them of everything you have been taking? If so cheating or not the suspension may stand.
That said I want to tell the guys in the 150 slow #3 that I an often wrong and please feel free to pick Braun in the first 10 picks.

Another thing that strikes me as strange from this Mock is the number of catchers taken in the first 6 rounds. I know it's a weak position and all, but I would have trouble taking Wieters, Avila, Mauer ect. when there are other players that seem more productive and reliable that early.

I agree here totally. Runs (catcher runs, closer runs, speed runs) are funny things. You always have to have a plan B if you miss on the guys you were targeting later due to the draft "lemmings" effect!shazballz wrote:Another thing that strikes me as strange from this Mock is the number of catchers taken in the first 6 rounds. Sad, but true, Rey!
I can remember some things like that, but most days I just call my children "Thing 1" and "Thing 2"!
I think I remember that move so much because, if memory serves, you had the best offense in the Main that year. The Pujols pick was just one reason of many. Ahh, those halcyon days in Florida!

Where are you drafting this year Wayne? I'll be in Vegas the first weekend (wanted to catch the 1st round of the NCAA tourney).
