NFBC Slow Draft Grand Prize Grows To $5,000+

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Thu Feb 02, 2012 4:36 pm

I never expected to miss a Guaranteed Grand Prize so badly, but at least I missed it on the low end!! When we unveiled the NFBC Slow Draft this year, we based the grand prizes on 20 total leagues. I figured we could reach that total and maybe get to 25 or so. I NEVER expected the constant drafting like we've seen so far this season.

Already, we have 31 full Slow Draft Leagues and that number is certain to rise throughout the month of February. We already have 22 full $150 leagues, 8 full $375's and 1 full $1,000 league. All funnel into the grand prize pool with $25 coming from each team.

Our original prize pool was as follows:

1st: grand prize of $3,500
2nd: $1,000
3rd: $750
4th: $500
5th: $250

With the number of teams likely to double, we'll definitely double the number of payout spots and continue to add to the grand prize and the other overall prizes. I don't want to say what those final figures will be, but it's safe to say that already the grand prize is over $5,000 and we'll pay down at least to the Top 10 overall. We have the additional prize money to make that happen now. And if this goes to a new level of 40+ leagues, we'll announce new guarantees for the overalls.

For a $150 entry fee, it would be cool to have a shot at a $1,000 league prize and maybe something in the $10,000 range for a grand prize. We'll see how far this goes, but so far so good. Plan on increased overall prizes and thanks for making this Slow Draft season such a big, big success. Great job everyone.

greg, seeing how pitchers and catchers haven't reported yet, i can see you finishing above 50 slow draft leagues.

If you can start these in October this year I can see you blowing away this years great numbers. Plenty of fanatics here ready to draft year round.

It's possible next year to start these earlier, but one of the keys to making these work is getting the player pool strong so that we don't have so many Placeholders to fill in later. I think STATS did a great job of that this year. We also need to rank the player default list in a way that gives you a pretty good starting point early in the year. That's not easy, but we can't change this list once all of these leagues get started, so we need to spend some time on that. And then there are some draft enhancements that we probably would like to add each year.

But yes, starting them earlier would lead to bigger numbers. And in football, we may start these in May after the NFL Draft. I could foresee some REALLY BIG numbers in football. I like it. And in some ways, I kind of knew they would be popular, but not THIS popular. :D

Maybe another Fast Slow Draft :D
If Sunday at 2 pm EST is the desired time for these, I'll set one up for the next Sunday and see if there are enough crazies out there to do one. We'll do them every Sunday afternoon going forward if the demand is there. Fair enough?

Greg:

Does this mean, regardless of your Slow Draft price point ( $150, $375, $1000 )
each team has a shot at the same Overall Slow Draft prize? Interesting.

I'm guessing you will have a separate Overall link after the start of the season
to track this? Nice job.

Yup, works for me. I'll start a new thread for Sunday, Feb. 19th and see if we get any takers.

When I screw up the first one, I will want to do another one right away ... so sign me up for the 19th! Ha ha. This is how I felt last year when I left the Main Event in Atlantic City. Dave T.

WOW...This simply makes these leagues even more appealing to me, if that is possible. I love the competition and thought that goes into drafting one of these teams. Since you guys added Overall Prizes to the Slow Drafts, this format has become my favorite!
Great job NFBC! :D
