Roto Monster

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Fri Feb 10, 2012 1:03 pm

I don't look at other sites games. I mean, sure, I play in a couple of NFBC Leagues on CBS and one on Yahoo, but I don't care what those sites have to offer, thanks to Greg and his hair brained idea. :)
With that said, I don't know if my idea is already out there, if it is, fine, if not, maybe we can play it here next year if we can work out the kinks.
I've already approached Greg with this idea and he has to look into the legalities and logistics of offering it next year.
So don't bug Greg! :D

I call it Roto Monster.
Like our game of Roto, we are trying to build the best statistics we can in 10 categories.
But, we are not fielding a team. Just one roto hitter and one roto pitcher.
At the start of the season, we can have our pick from any MLB hitter to best fill those cats from MON-Thur.
For instance:
Home Runs- Albert Pujols
RBI- Prince Fielder
RUNS- Derek Jeter
SB- Michael Bourn
AVG- Ichiro

We cannot use the same hitter in any two categories. We can use the same lineup for Fri-Sun or change it. If there are no lineup changes the last lineup becomes your default lineup.
Instead of having our teams, we are building the best stats through one hitting monster.
There is no draft. There is no FAAB on Sundays.
Matchups against certain teams or pitchers become the overriding strategy.
By the end of the year, we are looking for a hitter to have a line such as,
.330/150/51/150/62

Same thing on the pitching side, only like our game pitchers will be changed once a week and no two pitchers can be used in multiple categories, meaning two start pitchers will have to be done wisely.
We may be looking at a pitcher with a stat line of,
2.50/28/290/1.000/45

We can play it in leagues with an overall. Play as many times as we like. And a cheap price point would probably be a good starting point, say $100
So far, the NFBC has only offered the 'team' contests and not gone out of that territory. Eventually, possibly branching out may be an objective.
The largest benefit of this contest is time. No drafts or in-season faab gives us time to look at the best possible matchups before inserting a lineup for the week. There is no pre-season time at all.
Like said, it's just an idea and I welcome any comments about flaws or ways to improve on the idea. And really, just wanted to gauge interest from you all on this idea.
Thanks.

Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

A PM of a weekly prize is a swell idea!
That can be incorporated as well.
Great idea!
