More importantly, whats the impact on Cespedes Value! Man, I would have made a different choice if I were him.
Think about the different lineups he could have played in and marketing opportunities a place like Miami had. Weird Choice!

There's a fine line between genius and the insanity.
Billy Beane is tumbling in one direction and I'll be damned if I know which camp he'll land in.

As for Cespedes, he probably knows as much about America as I do about Cuba.
He does know the international language though....$$,$$$,$$$

You might be on to something with Billy wanting to trade him this year to get a haul. He tried doing that a few years ago with Ben Sheets too.

For the A's to give Cespedes $9 Million a Year for 4 Years, considering other deals they haven't done in the past few years and where their franchise is at with their stadium etc... this deal is CRAZY!

Maybe there is a huge Cuban population in San Jose?

Here's a pretty good read about the situation:

I actually think it makes sense for the A's. They didn't give up anything for a player who before his showing in the Dominican Republic was talking about a $50-$60 million contract. They get him for a fair price and knowing Billy will trade him in a year or two for prospects. This is a franchise that can't convince anyone to play there anymore and so they have to take some chances. And from the sound of things, Cespedes didn't want to be the face of Cubans in Miami, so he goes to a place where expectations are low. Everyone wins, I guess.

love this quote in that article....

"The problem is no one wants our money," the A's person said

ha. nobody wants to sign with oakland cause they are oakland. its not a nice city (or at least ive been told) the park is old and plays for pitching, and billy beane trades away talent at a moments notice. so why on earth would any legit FA want to sign with oakland? their money is worth the same as everyone else's money, its just that their ownership, management, city, and park that are not attractive.

whoever this A's guy is .. id recommend retirement.

ps. the article is written well but hat nobler guy is terrifying looking. :o
