$$ Pirates Juan Cruz $$

Post by Gekko » Fri Apr 20, 2012 2:11 pm

For those of us in DESPARATE need of saves and have missed out on Casilla, Rodney, Santiago and H.Rodriguez, there is still room on the Save Train. Best hurry as this may be the last golden ticket given out in a while. You can still get a seat if you are willing to pay the price of admission.

As most of you know Joel Hanrahan has a hammy injury. In an afternoon discussion with my milkman, he indicated there was a likely chance that Hanrahan would hit the DL and/or that his hammy problem would linger for months. This opens up the Pirates save opps to Juan Cruz. In fact, he has already converted TWO save opps this week. 8-)

For those of us who don't want to fall too far behind in saves, we got to make a stand before it's too late. With the FAAB prices paid ($200+) for previous closers, I expect it will take a significant bid to acquire this new Save Stream. Good luck.

What about the Cubs situation?
Wood on the DL and Marmol being shopped (Boston?) as they fall out of it early.

Who's the heir apparent there?

Marmol isn't going anywhere. I think Boston gets Brett Myers from Houston...

that's just a speculation play and there are 20 or more types of spec plays you can make, however, cruz HAS the job. save opps is king and cruz has it.

Sorry but most Cubs fans know and are resigned to the fact that Marmol is being shopped. He won't be a Cub in 2013...

thanks so much for this post. i am short saves w my n.l. team and was wondering if i should go all-in on cruz. i was thinking about $350 or so...but because you are so high on this guy, i think i will bid around $600.

thank again, geeko. with friends lie you...

u may want to calculate your "max bid". kinda early in the season to do a max bid, but this situation may warrant it

Save a few FAAB dollars for Clay Hensley, the new sheriff in town in SF 'pen. Bailed out Romo in bottom of the 10th and got last 3 outs with the winning runs stranded on 2nd and 3rd!Make room on the save train for Clay Hensley, the new savior in Frisco!

Yet again, people getting too jumpy about guys getting save opportunities. $600 on Cruz, you got to be kidding? Even if he takes over the job if/when Hanrahan hits the DL, opportunity does not mean quality production. You might get some saves but your ERA and WHIP can skyrocket from these relievers.
