$$ ALERT Francisco Cordero $$

Post by Gekko » Sun Apr 22, 2012 6:41 am

Blue Jays placed RHP Sergio Santos on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation.

Francisco Cordero will serve as the Blue Jays' closer while Sergio Santos (shoulder) is on the disabled list.

Juan Cruz still makes sense for Hanrahan owners, but Cordero looks like the M.U.S.T. add this week if you need saves. Just be ready to pay for him. Santos owners (as well as Aceves and Casilla owners) will be scrambling.

Blue Jays have 7 games this coming week against: KC (1); BALT (3); SEA (3). I can realistically see the Blue Jays winning at least 5 of those games, with 4 save opps. A nice 4 save week from a FAAB pickup is just what some teams need (me included).

For what it's worth, realistically I think the Jays go 7-0 this week with all the victories by at least 19 runs. Cordero, however, gets shifted to the starting rotation on Monday and gives his staff a breather by starting 6 of the 7 games next week and hurls 57 scoreless innings. He throws 6 complete game shutouts from Monday thru Saturday and just for good measure since he will be bidded on as a reliever, he comes in Sunday and throws the last 3 innings in scoreless fashion preserving a 34-2 Blue Jays win and gets credited with a save.

All aboard CoCo Cordero!

Santos will reclaim the job as soon as he is healthy. They hype though, will have owners spending wads of Gekko Dollars on Cordero.

Sergio Santos flying to LA to see surgeon Dr. Lewis Yocum to rule out structural damage to his pitching shoulder. If you are a Santos owner, Cordero is a must. Sorry, but owners are gonna have to break the piggybank.

That's scary news. Anytime you are visiting one of the two Dr. Death's (Andrews and Yocum) it's never a good sign. This latest piece of news moves Cordero from the 200 range to 400+

A tough break for the Jays and for Santos' fantasy owners. Santos felt some tightness in the shoulder while converting a save Friday. "He didn't feel quite right in that save situation last night," manager John Farrell said after Saturday's game. "And as the evening progressed, he felt more tightness throughout the night. He woke up [Saturday] morning with that inflammation kind of rearing its head." Farrell is considering the move precautionary, so it sounds like an extended stay on the DL might not be needed. Francisco Cordero will close games for Toronto while Santos is out.

Doesn't look like a long time job...maybe owners should save a few bucks?

IMO Cordero will be the highest priced FAAB player this year (on average).

Unless someone is extremley desparate, it will be the biggest waste of FAAB money this year, escpecially if you go into the hundreds. this guy has'nt closed in years. This will be just the like the Giants closer mess.... Jansen and Perez will share in the saves in Toronto. get Jansen and Perez while they are cheap.

is that "on Average" in FAAB dollars or Gekko Dollars..... so he will exceed Trout, Arenado, Bauer, Corbin, et al and the next closers in waiting, like Pestano, Kenley Jansen, Rauch, Robertson?

You should win every year with all of the inside info you have. Doug Sisk told me Farrell hates him. Danny Heep said it is all Cordero. Tim Tueffel has yet to return my call. I will let you all know when he does. Gotta run Walt Terrell is at the door.

This is the same guy who so strongly stated last year that Eric Hosmer bidders were wasting their money. About 20 people tried to explain it to him and let's just say not the greatest listening skills.

i'm only talking about 15 team leagues. most of the guys you mention are either on teams or won't be contributors this year. in any event, i think most santos owners realize there's a very good chance he is toast, hence a 1-for-1 clean swap with Cordero. And don't give us any dogpoo about Janssen or Perez (lefty) closing games. PLEASE don't give out false info in the hopes of duping your competitors. It's bad form.

My opinion is just like yours, nothing makes your opinion correct. as far as false info, whats false about the 2 names I mentioned. You sir, are the ultimate hypster.......but all in fun...

Toronto reliever Luis Perez entered Thursday's contest with Tampa Bay pitching at the top of his game. He has yet to allow a run over 8 1/3 innings of work. "He has been outstanding," manger John Farrell told MLB.com. "Even from his first outing in spring training, his breaking ball has become much more consistent. He pitches with a lot of confidence and he believes in himself. He made a conscious effort to make an adjustment change against the attack of right-handers, they had some decent production against him last year. It shows a lot of aptitude on his part and you get a left- hander, with three pitches, that pitches middle-to-late in the game that can go multiple innings, he's a valuable pitcher for us."
"He's not just a one-pitch guy that's relying on arm strength. He's pitching with three above average pitches,"

BTW- It's below me to give out false information........

and for all those considering spending "on average" 400 FAAB dollars today as Gekko suggests, consider this tidbit, Coredero will be 37 in 2 weeks. Happy bidding

30 different times a Closer aged 37 or older has saved 30+ games. Including greats  like Jose Mesa, Todd Jones, Doug Jones, and Bob Wickman

Ahead in the count to Betancourt, Betancourt worked the at bat hard got the count full, fouled off a couple, then worked out a walk. Francouer followed up with a clean shot in the gap. Moose then grounded one off Coco for an infield hit.

One run in, tying runs on. Let's see how Coco responds.

Francisco Cordero went for $421 in my Main Event League... I bid $146 and was honestly nervous I would get him and spend that much money on him this early in the season! :P
