NFBC Weekly Profile - Scott Keikoan
Few fantasy baseball titles are won in April. But make no mistake, it feels a lot better to see your team get off to a great start early rather than spending the entire season having to make up valuable ground.
Scott Keikoan is well aware of that.
Keikoan has had a dominant team so far in the debut NFBC XII event and remains in first place in the overall standings heading into action today. The secret behind his early season success? Simple.
Offense.
Lots and lots of offense.
Thanks in large part to standout starts from Matt Kemp, Pablo Sandoval, David Ortiz, Starlin Castro, Josh Willingham and Chase Headley, Keikoan’s team remains perched atop the overall event.
“All of those guys have played real well so far,” Keikoan said. “I just tried to draft value when it came to my turn and all of those guys have really paid off so far.”
Keikoan’s team ranks in the Top 4 in all five offensive categories in his league and is first in two (batting average and RBIs).
His team’s batting average has been especially impressive. The team is batting .295 thus far, nearly 20 points higher than the second-place team in the league.
Keikoan’s pitching hasn’t been quite that superlative but it’s done well through the first four weeks. Roy Halladay, Justin Verlander, Johnny Cueto and Ted Lilly have combined for 10 wins.
“Ted Lilly has been a nice surprise so far,” Keikoan said of Lilly, who he snared in the 21st round of his draft.
The 47-year-old Keikoan has been playing in the NFBC for seven years and he’s well aware that his great first month assures him nothing in this league or the overall event, which carries a $50,000 grand prize.
“The competition is awesome in my league,” he said. “There are some great teams.
“Honestly, I don’t know how long my players can keep up their pace and stay healthy at the same time. It has been a great start. I just need to stay lucky all year and I will have a chance.”

Congrats on a nice month, Scott.
I feel like I'm the Jerry Quarry of the NFBC.

What's the big deal ? This is the type of start one would expect from a guy who writes about fantasy baseball for a living

Great job Scott

Great job Scott

Always be closing.

I wish I wrote about fantasy baseball for a living. I think you have confused me with Shawn Childs.
Re: NFBC Weekly Profile - Scott Keikoan
Well done Scott. I'm happy you're dominating in the league we're not in together.

KJ,
Matt Kemp has to be disappointing you with his lack of stolen bases this year. I hope he finds his stride for you soon.

How's weather in Vegas now btw ? Here in Tucson we reached triple digits the 2nd fastest in AZ history (only '89 was quicker) meanwhile all the games I'm watching the fans have got coats, jackets, and thick sweatshirts on and you can see the players' breath in the cold air

Always be closing.

That's right. I remember you now. It is not real hot here yet, but it is coming very soon. But, all that means is bikinis are coming out as well, so not all bad. Good luck to you this year.
Re: NFBC Weekly Profile - Scott Keikoan
I'll give him some time, if he starts stealing a base every other game he still can reach his target.kamakazi wrote:KJ,
