$$$ Rafael Dolis $$$ - Carlos Marmol Loses Closer Role

Post by Winston's Empire » Thu May 03, 2012 8:52 pm

REV up the FAAB engines in almost every league, because it looks like The Cubs will be replacing Marmol who SUCKS at closer!
WISHING I wouldn't have spent $414 on S Downs, because having the New Cubs Closer would be AWESOME
Good luck all! :D

From ROTOWIRE Tonight

Rafael Dolis and James Russell will be used in a closer committee, based on matchups, if the Cubs decide to remove Carlos Marmol from his role as the team's closer, the Chicago Tribune reports.
If the Cubs do actually remove Marmol, Dolis will probably be the primary closer most nights. Russell is a lefty, so the team will probably want to use him in more situational spots to get out tough lefties.

IT'S OFFICIAL - Carlos Marmol has been informed he is no longer the Cubs Closer!
As a Cubs fan this is good! :)

Brillant! Removing Marmol from the closer spot (who always had good stuff but is just too wild) for Dolis (who always had good stuff but is just too wild). Just brilliant!
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Dolis is terrible, so I assume he will go 19 for 19 in saves between now and the ASB

Cubs fans slay me :D

On any level this is not good. The Cubs are churning. At the least, Marmol had perceived value during the off season. Now, he has little. Same with Soriano.
The Cubs are trying to take advantage of shortcomings like the Red Sox outfield to deal players like Byrd.
But if failing themselves, other teams will pass on the Marmol's and Soriano's that the Cubs have to offer.

The Cubs know that Dolis and Russell are not Major League closers. But, if they can get Marmol to perform as a seventh ot eighth inning guy, even for a month, another team may bite on him and deal for him in that capacity.
Plus, he'll have the dreaded 'experience'.
Like NFL coaches, even if failing several times, MLB teams still remember that a guy had experience in the closer's spot.

Its gonna be interesting to see what they do, but it sounds like Dolis will be the guy to me.... and your right he will likely turn into the next Mo Rivera now... WHO DIDN'T SEE THAT COMING? ;)

I only think its good for the Cubs because it means we are heading in the a different direction back there finally. The Cubs will look about 75% in 3 years, from both guys in the Dugout to Performance on the field. Marmol & Soriano are not our guys long term and its time we flip the page!

You are assuming the Cubs can win 19 games before then.

So Funny & So True!!!

Regarless, somebody besides Marmol will be collecting saves in Chicago!

Not yet. But I came into Spring in the best shape of my career and I've been working on a new pitch

Dolis has good stuff but the Cubs are in last place, won't get you near enough saves as Robertson will on the Yankees...

Agree, but is Robertson available in your league? He isn't in my Main.
I am talking about the opportunity to get saves and that opportunity is going to lay with somebody other than Marmol in Chicago now.
If I was betting my money, I would put it on Rafael Dolis hands down.

He throws hard. That's all. He has no secondary pitch and he doesn't miss any bats. He didn't miss them in the minors. He also has no idea where it's going. He's basically Marmol minus the good parts of Marmol.

So, I'll probably only bid $200 on him

As long as he can continue turning pissrod line drives into outs, he should be fine.

Kinda looked like Lee Smith to me today!
More dominant though and took less time to get to the mound! ;)

Mujica/Cishek
Robertson/Soriano
Cashner
Dolis

We don't even need the $$$ signs for threads every week. It's become the norm.
I feel sorry for the folks spending big bucks on a potential closer only to guess wrong.
Or worse, get Santiago'd :)

I'll wait for next week's episode :D

nothing decided in SD and Cubs land. According to all the "experts" it should be Cashner and Dolis but it also could very well be Gregerson and Russell.

Mujica/Cishek
Robertson/Soriano - Yankee announcers and NY media all speculating it could be Soriano "most" of the time
Cashner/Gregerson - Gregerson been waiting a long time and more of a strike thrower than Cashner
Dolis/Russell - also Wood and Bowden are in the mix. best strike thrower will get the most opps, until they put Marmol back within a few weeks.

Happy Bidding.

Dolis got the Save Opportunity yesterday and had no problem. Russel was used in the 7th inning and was not good...
Actions usually tell the story better than words and "by committee" usually means until the guy we want proves he can do it!
Good luck all, should be a fun FAAB report in NFBC Land Come Sunday Evening!

Not trying to hype or obscurify my true intentions. Just my thoughts here:

Robertson got a nice audition in a non-save situation last night - but I think his striking out the side will get him the first shot at a real save. He's the fan favorite and he's earned the shot by just being the better pitcher for over a year now. Does anyone in Yankee land REALLY want to see Soriano jogging out with the game on the line? I just don't see Girardi going to Soriano first. That doesn't mean Soriano won't get some chances, I just think the Yanks (and Girardi) want Robertson to be the guy in Mariano's stead. That's just what my gut says on that situation.

I have no clue in SD - BUT - Cashner was the prize they got in the Rizzo deal. GM's (and managers) love to show people how smart they are and that they made the right move. Cashner will get the chance I beleive to show the SD fans what a great trade they actually made.
