DL Pitchers
DL Pitchers
I know we beat this subject up last year and I understand the resons why are not subbing pitchers this year, DL or not.
But after experiencing a recent rash of pitchers going on the DL early in the week--Robertson, Leubke, Rivera come to mind--and being left short for a full week, I wondered if it was worth revisting for next year.
Suppose it was set up so that you could only replace a pitcher that went on the DL after lineups locked on Monday?
Replace them on Friday, as was done in the past. Wouldn't this close the loophole that was experinced last year?
Just a thought.

if a pitcher hasn't thrown a pitch monday - thursday, allow him to be switched out on friday.

worley
and i'd like to be able to switch out niemann as well
finding out monday at 11:30 pm that two of the pitchers you thought might get you 4 starts will actually get you effectively zero puts you way behind the field for that week.

I miss the DL rule and its exploiters like I miss having a root canal.

Doesn't the caveat that the pitcher had to be DL'd after line up lock solve the exploitation?
And then you can only switch him out on Friday.
Is there another loophole I'm missing?

can't get any double starts out of it and it clearly benefits owners with unfortunate situations

What if that no-throwing pitcher is a closer? Lets say you have two closers on your team (A and B). Pitcher A picks up three save on M W R and pitcher B doesn't pitch. Should you be able to pull out B and throw an extra starter on Sat because you have your saves "quota" for the week?

I read his comment as assuming that the pitcher went dl.

Re: DL Pitchers
Could be...........but I've read enough of his comments over the years to know that he writes EXACTLY what he means. If he didn't write...... "Didn't throw a pitch M-R AND GOES ON THE DL" then he didn't mean that. But I could be wrong.Atlas wrote:I read his comment as assuming that the pitcher went dl.
Either way. I like the current rule.

YES!!
Who the heck are you to tell someone how to run their team. Just ask Greg and Tom. The last thing they want to do is tell people how to run their team. Although they do it ALL THE TIME!
You guys are upset over this? Good or bad at least it's a fixed rule. Not like player cuts which is completely left up to two guys and their worthless opinion as to who is valuable and who is not.
The last "worthless reliever" that was cut now has 9 saves. A quick look at the overall will show that 9 saves is the difference between spots 354 and 112 and then 111 to 8!

This is off topic and an asinine comment as well. Start your own thread (Zman) to rant about random crap that no one has any interest in reading.Zman wrote:Navel Lint wrote:Gekko wrote:if a pitcher hasn't thrown a pitch monday - thursday, allow him to be switched out on friday.

Thanks for you input though. Your counter argument is only surpassed by your hard facts.

Re: DL Pitchers
Agreed. There is no reason you shouldn't be able sub out a pitcher who has been DL'ed after line-up's lock for the week especially in this era of baseball when seemingly everyone is "injured" due to something all the time. It's no fun being paralysed and helpless to make changes to your team in order to stay competitive week in and week out. The daily sites thrive on players who get screwed for this very reason among others (ie. Weather, players not in line-ups for a myriad of last minute reasons, etc.). Doesn't need to be the case with this format. It cannot be minimized that these are high stakes competition with a huge financial investment being made by many of us. A win, a strikeout or two, a save, or whatever at the end of the season is sometimes the difference between finishing higher in the standings and in the $ or not. It happens, but if and when it does, I want to know that I had every chance to have prevented it from happening by being able to manage my team the best that I could.Gekko wrote:if a pitcher hasn't thrown a pitch monday - thursday, allow him to be switched out on friday.

Wow, who would of thought a few meager stats could make such a difference! That should read "at any point of the season" not just the end.Baseball Furies wrote:

The NFBC needs to let players who are on the DL be replaced the next day. It also needs a system to keep players from being available for faab from cuts in isolated leagues.
Yea, I'm beating a dead horse. But he's not feeling anything.
Re: DL Pitchers
It would be great if they were capable of programming this, but if I remember correctly, it's almost impossible to do. As I recall, the deadline last yr for replacing a pitcher on the DL was "before the programmers get around to removing the DL tag." With that, some owners were able to make moves in the same scoring period that other owners were not allowed to make. I much prefer the current rules to some ridiculous rule like last yr. If they can program it to only have DL'd pitchers that haven't pitched Mon-Thurs, I'm all for it. With that, you're only leaving a window of less than 24 hrs for which you can make those switches, otherwise you're going to leave open the same loophole as last yr. It could cause issues for people that know they won't have access on Friday morning and want to set their lineups ahead of time.
Edit- On another note, if it could be programmed to allow the 2nd period lineups to be manipulated prior to Friday for the DL'd pitcher, and if the pitcher accumulates stats for the first period, then the 2nd period switch is backed out, that might solve the problem. I don't know how hard this would be to program, but it could be a solution if possible.
