Another Postition Eligibility Question

Post by BB of the Leaderboard » Tue Mar 14, 2006 12:55 am

I understand that we are responsible for knowing where a player on the 40-man rosters, but not on the eligibility lists quailifies positionally. But I would like to know which takes precedence in the case of an error or omission in your published position lists for players who are included on the lists -- the list or the actual number of games played? An example of this would be a player who last year played 33 games at 2B and 50 games at 3B, but is listed in the magazine lists as being eligible only at 3B. Does the list control even though the player qualifies at 2B according to the rules? And this is not a theoretical question (although the example is), so inquiring minds need to know.

Thanks,

BB

I'm not sure who you are talking about but I would think that actual events (where a player actually played last season) would take prioity over a list put together by someone.

I went to USAToday in early January and determined every multi-positional player who was in the majors last season. That is the list I am using. All I needed help in were special cases and players brought up during the season - Bonds & Fielder for instance.

What you say makes sense but does not necessarily match up with the statements from Greg and Tom saying that positional eligibility will be governed by the lists in the magazines. That is why I asked the question.

Thanks for playing.

I have an eligibility question. If a player is listed at a position on the 40 man roster sheet, but he only played 9 games at that position last year is he eligible? or just eligible at DH?

it can depend on whether he was a September callup or not. However, Bonds has been decreed as OF eligible even though he was short of the 20 game requirement. Fielder is just UTIL eligible because he was up well before September and had less than 20 starts at 1B. He will hit the 10 game in-season requirements by week 3 I suspect.

Who are you asking about?
