DONT UNDERSTAND WHY HURRY ON SLOW DRAFT
DONT UNDERSTAND WHY HURRY ON SLOW DRAFT
i dont understand the hurry from so many people on the slow drafts, i have been thinking about getting into a 375 slow draft for the reasons of 1. i can take my time and really think about my draft and who i want without hurry 2. because it will give me something to think about for a couple of months in the winter time besides bothering my wife 3. i can even keep track of other teams with the longer times. so i would love that sometimes people take a long time with no hurrying up in a draft-------am i wrong---------------thanks
Re: DONT UNDERSTAND WHY HURRY ON SLOW DRAFT
By the nature of the draft, you'll have several hours, as opposed to minutes or seconds between picks so hopefully you can use the time others are picking to do the majority of your homework.
When you are on the clock, there is an expectation you pick "fast", but if you COMMUNICATE the time you plan on picking, my guess is in most drafts, you'll be fine. Courtesy usually is extended if the communication is there.
To address the "why hurry" question, here are some reasons beyond the fact that some are eager/anxious/impatient to make their next pick...
1. Some owners have less time than others to check the progress and make their picks and want to keep things going so it helps if they have an idea when they may be on the clock. That is, it is a pain to have to spend all your breaks at work checking the progress. It would be nice to have a better idea when their pick may occur so they can plan better.
2. Some owners have a certain time frame they can do the whole draft. The normal draft takes about 3 weeks so they sign up for drafts that they can finish without some other sort of commitment. Maybe they have a business trip in mid to late January so they chose a mid to late December draft time so they were done in time.
3. Some owners enjoy playing in multiple drafts, but they prefer not to have that many overlap.
I realize all these reasons are not to inconvenience others, but remember they are (hopefully) extending you courtesy as well to make your draft more enjoyable.
As many have stated, about 99 44/100ths percent of draft issues can be mitigated simply by sending an e-mail to the league - "Guys, looks like I'll be on the clock mid morning. I'll be able to post my pick after I get back from lunch, probably about 1:30 PM ET (or whatever).
Just be honest. I call it the pizza rules. I'd rather call my favorite store and they tell me "45 minutes" than have them tell me "15 minutes" and then I hang around the store for 30 minutes waiting.

Re: DONT UNDERSTAND WHY HURRY ON SLOW DRAFT
If everyone took 4 hours per pick, 50 rounds would take 125 days (i.e. that's about halfway between Opening Day and the All-Star break).
If everyone took 1 hour per pick, it would still take 30+ days (not including overnight time when the league may be asleep).
So simply, when it's your turn to pick, make a pick.
If you want to draft all winter, then buy a few $150 leagues instead of trying to make one $375 draft last longer.
PS final reason: it's not even called a Slow Draft anymore, it's the Draft Championship. The goal is not to be slowest, but best.

Re: DONT UNDERSTAND WHY HURRY ON SLOW DRAFT
As Todd said, you definitely have a day to analyze the draft BEFORE your turn is up. Heck, you have hours upon hours to analyze the draft, which should give you the opportunity to narrow your pick selections before it's your turn. As you say above, that's the fun part of these Draft Champions Leagues. But then when it's your turn, I don't understand why you or anyone else would take several more hours to make that decision. To me, the fun part would be waiting to see which of my choices were still on the board and then making the correct call. I would obviously have those players already ranked on my board and would naturally take the top one without much hesitation.pretzels wrote:i dont understand the hurry from so many people on the slow drafts, i have been thinking about getting into a 375 slow draft for the reasons of 1. i can take my time and really think about my draft and who i want without hurry 2. because it will give me something to think about for a couple of months in the winter time besides bothering my wife 3. i can even keep track of other teams with the longer times. so i would love that sometimes people take a long time with no hurrying up in a draft-------am i wrong---------------thanks
Then it's back to analyzing the board for hours until your next pick. All of the enjoyment you talk about above can be done and you can even chat with the boys online and have some fun with them, asking them their opinions about certain players. It's all good. But when it is your turn, be ready, make a decisive decision and communicate to the other owners when you'll be in the draft room to make this pick. All of this great communication helps everyone and gives you enough time to make proper decisions.

Re: DONT UNDERSTAND WHY HURRY ON SLOW DRAFT
i for one am glad you changed the name and took the SLOW off . to many think that wow its my turn now i got 8 hrs to pick . if everyone played this way these drafts would be unplayable . no one would play and these would go to fantasy baseball heaven or hell . so pick when its your turn .if i seem in a hurry its because i want to finish and play another .
