Looking For Input On NFBC Live Scoring

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Mon Feb 25, 2013 9:02 am

Okay, last week Tom and I spent a couple of days in Chicago with all areas of our business to make sure we were ready to go for the upcoming 2013 seasons in all of our sports. We had some great meetings and going forward we are definitely going to have each sport ready to go earlier each off-season. The demand for these Draft Champions Leagues has changed our thinking going forward and we know that we have to have the draft rooms ready earlier than ever before and we need Registration live earlier than ever before. We'll get that done for each sport going forward.

We also had a good meeting about Live Scoring and Live Overall Standings. Everyone here understands just how important both areas are to our business. We feel good about what lies ahead in both areas.

However, we need a little input on Live Scoring. Last September when we rolled out Live Scoring some folks said we had some additional stats categories that weren't needed within Live Scoring. What stats categories were those? Also, if we had to tweak the new Live Scoring, what suggestions did you have here?

We have some features we didn't roll out in September that you'll see in April. And we'll do what we can to make sure Live Scoring is as good as it possibly can be. Help us along with some solid suggestions once you see it again this year. But if you remember anything beforehand, post here and we'll discuss with our IT team.

EVERYONE here at STATS is excited about the upcoming season and we all want to do everything possible to make Live Scoring and Live Overall Standings as good as they possibly can be. We know how instantaneous our industry has become recently and these two features will just add to your excitement with every game you play here. These national contests are fun, but imagine seeing where your team is located in the overall standings on a more real-time basis for 26 weeks of the season. That's the goal here and we want to make the NFBC so addicting that you can't get enough each year!! It's our job to get that done and we will.

Thanks for any feedback. We're on it. (And we know about the doubleheaders, so save the input there. We just have to make sure when there is that first doubleheader that we're on it and carrying over Game 1's stats and starting anew with Game 2's stats showing.)

1. The stats lines should be for the 5 batting categories plus at bats and the 5 pitching categories plus innings pitched.

2. The stat lines should line up for easy viewing and not just listed in a running stream. So if you have 5 home runs you easily scan down the page and see where they came from. Similar to the original.

3. I'd also like to see plus and minus points in the overall by category on the live and standings piece of the product. This would make the league and overall standings consistent. Those league standings are part of the live scoring already and is greatly utilized.

4. Speed. It was greatly improved, can never be fast enough.

5. Doubleheaders.

Live scoring trumps everything else when it come to my personal experience in this game. Great improvements were made and with some adjustments you will have a very nice product. The daily games seem to have this area down and now there is a new season long competitor out there. It would be a huge advantage to have the best live scoring product known to man. I'm told that their football live scoring is very good.

I'd be happy to test and look at anything you've got.

Thanks.
Joe

Greg, I can't remember last week let alone last September.

But I do remember the #1 issue with the new model was the categories needed their own individual columns so everything aligned and you could easily see which players accrued the total stats at the bottom.

Is there any way we can look at it before it's put in use?
The feedback would be of much more use if that could happen.

In addition to the 5x5 categories, the components of category ratios need to be shown:
- H
- AB
- Hits allowed
- BB allowed
- ER
- IP

Everything else from the box score should be hidden.

This is exactly what I was trying to get across, you did a much better job than I. Also, I agree that this is issue number #1.

Maybe it's just a personal thing with me, so that it's only me this bothers, but can the players be listed in the traditional sense?
C
C
1B
2B
3B
SS
MI
CI
OF
OF
OF
OF
OF
U

I forgot how they were listed last year, but if I remember right, it wasn't like that.
And again, this may be the sufferings of a guy with Sometimers, not Alzheimers.

A dividing line or color change for batters vs pitchers, both for live scoring and the set lineup page.

If I remember correctly, outside of the aforementioned issues, weren't the pitching stats appearing much slower than the hitters? I can't remember if this was still an issue after the new system was in place.

Agree.

If we could see a 'screen grab' or two from any test leagues that you are running it would make a world of difference in giving feedback as to what we like or don't like.

The original product last year had 13 columns, this suggestion would take it to 16. I don't have an issue with it at all unless if there isn't enough room or ascetically it doesn't work. While the upgraded product had some of these categories, it was a mess to look at as a live stream rather than a clean view of what's happening.

I'm sure there is a way to accommodate all of this. We're only 5 weeks away though, if it isn't done yet, chances are it'll be a tough fix in such a short window of time.

You can still look at the old view by going to a team from last year, go to live scoring and scroll to the bottom of the page and click on it. The upgraded view is not viewable in it entirety.

I stand corrected, the new view takes a little bit but you can view it. They simply had a stats line to the far right of the page. They actually have the scores from the games today at the top. That stats line should be the first thing changed.

Dan, the players are listed in exactly the same order you suggested.

Good deal, thanks Joe.
Was it our rosters I was seeing differently?

I don't think so. You can view these by going to one of your current league pages and click on your team on that page. It will take you to the set lineup page and will show you the roster order.

I see it. Yes, the MI and CI are listed after the outfielders.

It is the same in the final version of live scoring. I looked at it to quickly.

Not related to live scoring and I'm sure it has been discussed somewhere along the line, but it would be really nice if the bench players (I'm specifically talking about the DC leagues) could be ordered by position (specifically talking about hitters) rather than alphabetically.

With such a large amount of bench players It would make a big difference and save time if they were ordered by their primary position.

Thanks.

I would like to be able to toggle through all the teams easily and quickly.
I would also like something under my teams stats showing all the teams stats from the day.
Sometimes I'm good and sometimes I'm bad....but I always try real hard.

One nice touch that sportsline uses is they highlight your player in color when they are up at bat.

Why not make up a dummy league and use spring training stats to give us a chance to see what you have and offer some suggestions.

The CBS live scoring is very good in my opinion.

When clicking the dropdown to toggle between leagues if there is anyway the order of the leagues showing up can mirror your my team page, this would be helpful? This is more important on the set lineup page for me, I'm not sure what order it shows up in now but it's all scrambled between DCs, OL's and main's and I just prefer keeping it in the order of my preference which is how I rank my team page.

Completely, 100% agree with each and everyone of these points. The stat lines were much easier to read in the older format and I preferred the aesthetics on the older version. There was too much stat information in the newer version and it was not in an easy-to-read aesthetically pleasing format like the older version.

And as has been stated, the delay in loading the pitching stats after the hitting stats was beyond annoying.

I agree the old scoring style was much better than the new one rolled out late last year.

So is there a way we can look at live scoring before it is implemented?
