Yup, your description of a little silly was spot on. :) :P
I personally did throw a bid out on him almost everywhere.

I passed on him because Brian Wilson will be the Tigers closer starting in a few weeks.

He went for $506 in my league so I wouldn't win the bid regardless.

Cheers!

500+ everywhere in my leagues.. I went $150 tops.. It is Jose Valverde, after all.. The large bids on Kevin Gregg are interesting. :o

Watch, they both will be Fernando Rodney, for the rest of the year..

Got him in a XII for $344, but that was my only really competitive bid in any league. One of those times where I was probably happier to not win my bids.

I think the bids on Gregg seem even crazier than VALVERDE. I had all my 240 bids for VALVERDE blown away and in one league Gregg went for 240. In my other league I got Gregg for 31 (28 runner up). 31! Crazy range on Gregg. And crazy high for VALVERDE. I wonder why my iPhone insists on capitalizing VALVERDE?

Anyway, seems like we are running through faab faster then usual. Anyone track this stuff???

the NFBC Fake Bank tracks it... same thing the real fake Banks do, create money out of thin air until there is no more fake money left.. I guess if you need saves spending 1/2 your money is worth it, but what about the other 9 Cats?

I'm one of the crazies who went all-in on Jose Valverde, investing $489. I wrestled with this decision all week. I knew I was going to place a large bid on Valverde, but large could have been $250 as opposed to nearly 500. The runner-up bid in my league was $408, so I needed the high bid to get him. This game makes you do nutty things. I think that's part of its allure. I have never been much of a Valverde fan, but he has been a consistent source of saves. He's basically a one category guy, so spending essentially half of my budget on him seems absurd, and it just may be. That said, I truly believe that my team is strong enough to win, provided I get that second closer that I missed out on in the draft. I could have waited, lost more ground and time, and hoped to catch lightning in a bottle with a closer in waiting. Instead, I reasoned that you have spend your FAAB dollars somewhere. Today was a good day insofar as roster improvements. I not only added the second closer, but it's like I signed two quality position players to beef up my lineup. Carlos Ruiz is back from suspension and Yoenis Cespedes came off the DL. Now if I can just manage to get the Athletics to bring Daniel Straily back up and the Rays to begin the Wil Myers era, my team will be at full strength. Until the next injury, of course .... :o

Not even May yet, but sometimes ya just hafta say wtf

I feel like maybe my team has a shot and w/out a doubt my achilles heel is saves. I have Mariano and......waiting on Kenley to steal League's job. So I basically went ALL IN on Papa Grande AND Gregg. I won Valverde for $493 (runner up was $437) and Gregg for $109 (runner up was $65).

Detroit is certainly one of best teams in MLB so save opp's shouldn't be a problem, the question is can Cap'n Gasolino keep the job. Unlike last yr when I wasted over $400 on an unproven guy on the White Sox (Santiago I believe was his name) Valverde has a track record.

As far as Gregg my expectations are low, hope he can get 10-15 saves. I don't believe for a minute that Sveum inserts Fuji as closer while Gregg is doing the job. Managers are notorious for sticking w/ what works and until K.G. blows a couple Marmol style why would he ? It's not like Fuji was lights out when he was in there.

I just wish I had been as clever as the guy who mentioned grabbing Valverde in rd 30 of his draft (instead of taking a flyer on Luebke, who's been gone from my team for 3 wks now).

Being the glass is half-empty kinda guy that I am..I just KNOW that Valverde gets lit up tonight  hope I'm wrong and he ends up w/ 40 saves !
Always be closing.

If you paid over $1 you paid too much.

18.00 ERA tonight and counting with 2 outs. Maybe he blows the save?

Good old Valverde. Who's next, Rondon maybe?
