If you look at all the “expert” drafts here is the consensus top-5
1. A-rod
2. Soriano
3. Pujols
4. Vlad
5. Helton
Nomar and Bonds have been running a close 6 and 7, Manny and Prior are in most top-10’s as well.

Prior will make top 5 in a couple of drafts. Just my opinion. If he was 100%, he would make top 5 in several leagues. That's also my opinion. You will certainly see Beltran's name in a couple of top 5's too.

OK - So I'm not as good as I thought I was; but at least I am consistent.

That seems like a legit top 5. I think starters will get bumped down. Prior is the only real 1st round lock possibly.

Beware the experts drafts. In that CBS Sportsline draft that Greg did the other night, check out these picks:
1 David Gonos Alex Rodriguez (SS NYY)
2 Nancy Plotkin Vladimir Guerrero (OF ANA)
3 Greg Ambrosius Alfonso Soriano (2B TEX)
4 Charlie McCarthy Albert Pujols (OF STL)
5 Mike Levine Mark Prior (P CHC)
6 Tristan H. Cockcroft Todd Helton (1B COL)
7 Daniel E. Dobish Pedro Martinez (P BOS)
8 Michael Fabiano Barry Bonds (OF SF)
9 Scott Engel Nomar Garciaparra (SS BOS)
10 Greg Cimilluca Curt Schilling (P BOS)
11 Eric Mack Carlos Delgado (1B TOR)
12 Thomas Tighe Bret Boone (2B SEA)
13 Adam Reich Manny Ramirez (OF BOS)
14 Joe Ferreira Carlos Beltran (OF KC)
Round 2
15 Joe Ferreira Roy Halladay (P TOR)
16 Adam Reich Kerry Wood (P CHC)
17 Thomas Tighe Eric Chavez (3B OAK)
18 Eric Mack Sammy Sosa (OF CHC)
19 Greg Cimilluca Jim Thome (1B PHI)
20 Scott Engel Jason Giambi (1B NYY)
21 Michael Fabiano Derek Jeter (SS NYY)
22 Daniel E. Dobish Ichiro Suzuki (OF SEA)
23 Tristan H. Cockcroft Magglio Ordonez (OF CHW)
24 Mike Levine Brian Giles (OF SD)
25 Charlie McCarthy Javier Vazquez (P NYY)
26 Greg Ambrosius Miguel Tejada (SS BAL)
27 Nancy Plotkin Jorge Posada (C NYY)
28 David Gonos Bobby Abreu (OF PHI)
Besides a few of the obvious blunders (Beltran at 14, Magglio at 23, Posada at 27, etc.)...JUST WHO ARE THESE SO-CALLED EXPERTS?!?!?!

Errr, actually if that's my draft position I'll have more problems than if I start off with Unit!
I've currently built my strategy around picking #3 or #4 - hope Greg's card-man obliges!

My dream is for Beltran to fall to me in the 10 range. Golden rule: never talk up a guy you REALLY want.

One other point - I have a strong feeling A-Rod will not be the 1st pick in every league this year. Someone will deviate from that pick. That's my prediction and I'm sticking to it.

Like I said this was a consolidated “experts” list, including the one where Beltran went 14. Remember, the guys at cbssportsline aren’t the ones popping down a cool $1250 to show the world what they know. If they were, then no way could any of them passed on him from 10-13.

This is a good way to kill time while we all sit on our hands waiting for what seems like the “call” from the HOF.

I really need to have a handful of those "experts" in my league. I'm a bit surprised nobody took Rey Ordonez in the second round the way they were going.

beltran is a bit too brittle to take in the top 5. news on prior in the next week will be huge. helton is a no brainer, that 358 b.a. and bulking up could boost his homers. random thoughts from a lunatic mind. RT

I agree the experts cant be taking these Mock draft that seriously. If they where each putting down $1250 then alot of those draft will look alot diferent.

If only Ramon Castro qualified at catcher, he'd be a Top 5 pick for sure.

Don’t forget D. Ward, he’d be top-10 if he had a position.

You'd figure they are taking it somewhat seriously, as most of them depend on their fantasy reputation for their livelihoods. I actually think those guys did their best. If Greg, for example, clearly has the best Experts League draft and makes loads of great picks, that is an extra notch on his belt that he can use next year when selling his servies. Just my thought.

[/QUOTE]You could be right, Rey - but the market for 'expert' contests seems to expand until there are enough that every participant can claim at least one 1st or 2nd place on their site

Some food for thought:
You know, all this importance we place on what draft pick we have is a tad silly. It's like the Super Bowl boxes--everyone wants the 3s, 7s and 0s, but the final score almost always ends up 32 to 29 or some such. Let the chips fall where they may.
Also, in a 10- or 12-team league, I think having the first or second pick is very nice. However, in a 15-team league, you're waiting an awful long time for that 2nd pick. To me, the worst pick to get would be 9, 10 or 11: You likely won't get one of the premier players, and you're still waiting a while for your subsequent pick.
