Perspective on this Independence Day

Post by BK METS » Thu Jul 04, 2013 6:00 pm

Ok, so ESPN has a feature on Sports Center today called "US heroes going home". If you haven't seen it, not to worry, as ESPN likes to do things, it will be reshown about 30 times before the night is over.

Not much gets me emotional. I would say there has only been a handful of things that have made me cry. Watching my 2 boys walk into their school, the day school re-opened here in Connecticut after the Newtown shooting, that was one. Watching Rog's daughter Mia, pick the names out of a hat, for the special league formed in her name, that was another. But, this 5 minutes I just witnessed has to be up there as one of the most emotional moments of my life. If you have someone close to you that is in the military or just simply feel patriotic on this July 4th, it will be nearly impossible to watch this without tears.

Everyone, put things into perspective... this day is a celebration of independence, but is also a reminder of how many men and women died for their country to give us this right. I hope everyone is having a great day and watch this feature, if you have some time tonight.
