The realities of Friday waivers

Post by viper » Thu Apr 13, 2006 12:21 pm

For all the board posts lamenting about Friday waivers and people not wanting to be locked to their computers, I just spent about 45 seconds and checked all three of my teams to see if I had any potential Friday waiver moves. I will spend this same amount of time tomorrow morning to see if anyone was put on waivers tonight. I suspect many people spend that much time checking out live stats and wondering why some are missing. Trust me, although some stats that don't always show up the nano-second they occur, they will all be there tomorrow morning.

The first week of this Friday Waiver Wire was a bust in my eyes. I checked early in the day and was UNABLE to move a player out of my lineup because STATS didn't have him listed on the DL. Greg usually stays on top if these things and I suspect he'll do the same with this - but for now, my only experience with these Friday DL moves is a bust. I don't always have the time to check back to the site. If they can't ensure that this works properly then the whole FRIDAY concept needs to be looked at quickly.

In my personal opinion...this isn't football!

Baseball season is LOOOOOOOOONG...very long...and those who whine about a player being DL'd on Monday can deal with it.

There are many weeks to adjust.

Another case of unworthy players looking for ways to sneak into the money!

If it was good from 1979-2005...I'd guess it's still good enough!

"Lance doesn't like the invention of the wheel"...whatever.

Lance doesn't like crybabies...always seeking their own private advantage.

When you looked over this rulebook (NFBC)...you most likely were happy!

...Now...with a few hardships..you seek to eliminate reality!

Be specific, which player, what team, what league? So far you are the only one that has had a problem.

Sack and whoever else that are going to complain about similar 'real time' DL issues:

The DL thing is not going to update real time. Correct me if I am wrong but I don 't know of any online league that does so. This usually happens overnight in some sort of batch file. I am sure STATS sources such information directly from MLB.

And let's not forget that you will need to have someone on your bench whom plays the exact position of the DL'd player. There is no additional manuvering allowed.

Greg never said this thing was going to be perfect so let's re-adjust your expectations as right now they are just unrealistic.

I am not aware of any players that were DLed by Friday 00.01am that didn't have a red DL by their name and were therfore moveable on Friday. Gagne is probably the only close call so far and the Dodgers, in their infinite wisdom, waited past our deadline to place him on the DL. I guess there could have been someone and I am curious who it was.

Could SACK please identify this player to us?

Could SACK please identify this player to us? I'm not sure who Sack is talking about either, but Gagne was the one player where you read he was going on the DL on Thursday and he didn't officially go on the DL until late Friday. He was not in the Friday morning listings of transactions of going on the DL, so that was something the Dodgers decided to wait on, not STATS or the NFBC.

Again, if he doesn't have a DL listing next to his name first thing Friday morning, he won't get one after that. STATS gets the official listings from MLB and I've told them that our cutoff is 12:01 a.m. each Friday. Anyone who officially goes on the DL after that won't be allowed to be reserved on your team. Simple as that.

Good luck everyone.

I would hope greg will strongly consider doing away with these friday transactions next year. I dont think many of us that work, have families and dont have computer access 24-7 are really in favor of this.

Again, why FRIDAY WAIVERS ARE GREAT:

David Newhan goes down with Broken Leg tonight. I don't even have him, but a ton of people do and should they be screwed by a twist of fate?

Spy I wonder how much $$$$$ was wasted on him this past week. I am happy I was outbid $59 to $13 and I ended up with Hector Luna instead($11).

I am sure after this week Luna will have quite a few bids on him!

I love seeing all of these "high" bids the week after I got the guys on the cheap....

Villarreal $1

Wigginton $1

Repko $9

Markakis $9

And now Luna

If only I was doing this in the main instead of a satellite

Spy I say YES...they should.

Fate/injuries happening on Sunday or Monday or Friday night is all fate/injuries.

7 days is not too long to wait to replace someone...especially if we all have to.

This rule gives a major advantage to any player who gets hurt and DL'd on Thursday or Friday morning...over any other DL that is.

It is a nice rule...with nice intentions...but I just feel it was not needed.

162 games!
