Teams per League

Post by poopytooth » Sun Nov 03, 2013 11:53 am

Greg/Tom,

I know the overall trend/demand is for smaller leagues...10 team, 12 team...but is there any thought to a 20 or 25 team league..whether it be slow Draft of satellite league?

I just thought it would be an interesting/fun set up for people who like deeper leagues.

It doesn't need to be part of any overall prize structure...just an offering, if the interest is there.

Thank you!

Could definitely work for an auction.

NFBC has no auction software and doesn't seem interested in online auctions (yet).

I'd be in! Poopy, you were the master of running the 22- or 25-team league back in the day!

We are now in the 47th round of the first 50 round draft. One thing that is becoming apparent to me is that the rounds in these type drafts could be easily expanded to 55 or even 60. There are so many injuries during a Major League season that the player base at that level has expanded to 30-35, even close to 40 players per team. That alone, would be 900-1050 or 1200 players. This does not count the many players who are at the minor league level ready to make the move up.

A 55 round draft would be 825 players. 60 rounds would be 900.
I know that it is too late for a change in the rules for the upcoming season and I know this has been brought up before, but this should be a major consideration going forward.
Otherwise, the 50 rounders become more of a battle of attrition, not who drafted the best team.

This was an E-Mail draft without the bells and whistles 'warnings' that a draft room provides. Just 15 dedicated and responsible drafters. Our first round concluded on October 15 and the draft will most likely finish tomorrow. That is 22 days, with a pace of well over two rounds a day. Even factoring in eight hours of sleep a night, that is more than a pick an hour. Perfect, especially for this time of year.
A big THANK YOU to all who participated in this draft.
I too, cannot wait for 'Draft Room' drafts to begin.
Let's open 'er up, Greg! :D
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

Would love to eventually develop an online auction format--especially in a Championship format...It would be a hit across all sports because I see that many leagues are going to this format because it makes the owners less susceptible to draft position and places a greater value on player valuation skills. Opens up for more strategy as well for roto leagues

YES!! If CBS, ESPN & Yahoo can do online auction leagues, why can't the NFBC?

I have to jump in here in support of calls for an online auction league and/or a lower-cost live auction league, if feasible.

I have been playing fantasy baseball for many years. I have experience in playing roto and head-to-head leagues. Ever since I discovered the NFBC, I've loved it. I have never had the occasion to play in an auction league. Insofar as I can tell, the NFBC only offers live auction leagues and the lowest cost one is $1,300. Sorry, but there is no way I'd invest that type of money to play in a totally unfamilar format.

If there were cheaper auction alternatives, I would be very interested in trying the format. If they could be done online with auction software, like the $150 draft championship leagues, I'd sign up tomorrow and give it a try. I'd probably even consider doing one at a live event for something like $500. If I tried it and liked it, I almost certainly would make the jump to the higher-priced auction leagues. (After a few years of doing Draft Championship and On-Line Championship leagues, I'm seriously considering going for a Main Event team. It will happen either this year or next for sure.)

Thus, while I'm still relatively new to the NFBC and would be hesitant to offer much advice in terms of how they can grow their business, developing or purchasing the software that would allow for online auctions at lower price points seems to me like a great way to grow that format. Of course, I do not know the cost involved but, using myself as an example, I think there would be considerable interest to try auctions - or do more auction teams - if there were lower price points available. Just my two cents. Thanks.

I just wanted to chime in and say that I'm in full agreement with the group on this one. If the software could be created to do Auctions on-line, there is a tremendous opportunity for growth here, especially for developing an overall championship.

I was talking to someone the other day about doing an auction but at that price point and the sharks in the water(because they are all good). I can't willingly donate that type of money( I donate enough in my other leagues) to take a few lumps. I would guess it would take me at least 3 years to even be competitive and I dont mean win but just to be able to compete against the rest.
I would love to see a smaller price point to start or some NFBC software because I really don't like to play any where else.
and I would love to do an auction
