Placeholder Problem

Post by Cornhusker » Tue Nov 26, 2013 9:01 pm

In the $150 DC league #2 it is becoming apparent we are going to have a major problem with placeholders. We are only in round 25 and have exhausted 5 placeholders already. I was in the Kenyon email 50 rounder and based on that draft board we will need 20-30 more placeholders to finish if not more.

The major issue this is causing is confusion regarding tracking the placeholders. Is there a way to create a permanent spot to post these picks in the draft room to avoid duplicate drafting?

This is going to be a big time pain for whomever has to load these players later and I just hope folks actually recieve who they thought they drafted.

Thanks,

Scott N.

Round 25 already? In DC 1 (#2493) we've just started round 24. I guess we must be slackers ;-)

We've used a handful of placeholders too. My team has none yet but I'd like the opportunity to use one later.

When I type "holder" into the player search, lots show up.

Agreed. Some of these guys will be picked in EVERY draft.
There will be/is confusion.

Scott, what we did last year is get a list of the Placeholder players early on and add them to the player pool. If someone has a list of players who became Placeholders from an early draft feel free to email me and we'll get Player IDs for these guys and into the draft room. These early drafts are the ones that help us fill in with the minor-leaguers. Again, we don't start the DCs with the entire list of minor-leaguers or it would just bog down the entire draft process, so we need to add these guys that are going in the 50-round drafts once we see them being drafted regularly. Email me at [email protected] and we'll get them added soon. Thanks all.

Correct me if I'm wrong but in DC 1 it seems ChiSox Jose Abreu was a placeholder pick but when I look now it shows his name rather than Holder, Place.

Seems like they're gradually being added.

I PM'd the placeholders from DC1 to Greg already, so let's not over run his inbox. Hopefully he'll get these added asap though!!!

I have League 1's Placeholders and will add them once each player gets a Player ID. When that happens those players will be in the player pool for future drafts.

Greg - can u give an ETA on getting those players in the player pool. Most leagues have over 20 placeholders. I'm holding off on signing up on any more DCs until this has been resolved. It is way too time consuming to keep track of them in multiple leagues. Thanks

From what I'm seeing in DC 6 draft room, the placeholders from DC 1 have all been added to the database.

I won't list them in case the drafters want them kept private so they're not scouted by everyone who reads this.

Looks like from what i can gather(according to some earlier draftrers) that most of the placeholders from previous drafts have not been added to the draft list. We're in rd 21 and working on our 3rd placeholder and i can see 3 more that will probably be needed in the next 4 to 5 rds. Sure would be nice to get these added in a timely manner.

The Placeholders have not been updated yet. We will try to get the minor-leaguers added shortly.

International players like Tanaka won't be added until they sign with an MLB team. We can't just add players to the draft room when they are still in Japan; they need to have Player IDs and be part of the data base of MLB players. But the minor-leaguers should be added soon.

Actually MOST of the placeholders are Sept call ups anyhow. The rest won't be called up at all!

Like Jose Fernandez?
Or Tony Cingrani?
Or Wil Myers?
Or in Tanaka's case, Yu Darvish?

What is really frustrating is that auto1 cannot be used if taking a place holder. Another place holder can't be taken till the drafters know who the first place holder was. All confusing, and like said, frustrating.

Just a suggestion for next year, and we wouldn't have to be waiting on IT to fix the 'placeholder' problem...

When a drafter selects placeholder, a little window should pop up. In that window, we type Tanaka, P, Japan and click 'finished'.
And when 'placeholde' is seen by all, it says 'placeholder, Tanaka, P, Japan.
This way, no lists need be made and everybody in the draft knows who was taken.
In the meantime, IT can be looking for numbers to correlate for these players while we still have our fun.

haha!!! good one. asking IT to create a little pop up window is harder than populating a database with names, player id's and position. what are you thinking Dan!

I was thinking this.....

Just what makes that little ole ant
Think he'll move that rubber tree plant?
Anyone knows an ant can't
Move a rubber tree plant

But he's got hi-i-igh hopes, he's got hi-i-igh hopes
He's got high apple pi-i-ie-in-the-sk-y-y hopes
So, any time you're gettin' low, 'stead of lettin' go, just remember that ant
Oops, there goes another rubber tree plant

When troubles call and your back's to the wall
There a lot to be learned if that wall could fall

Once there was a silly old ram
Thought he'd punch a hole in a dam
No one could make that ram scram
He kept buttin' that dam

'Cause he had hi-i-igh hopes, he had hi-i-igh hopes
He had high apple pi-i-ie-in-the-sk-y-y hopes
So, any time your feelin' bad, 'stead of feelin' sad, just remember that ram
Oops, there goes a billion-kilowatt dam
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

I believe it was MDC or (??) that had the option to post a short comment along with any pick, and comments attached to picks also showed in draft results. If this is possible it could be used for PHs as well as trash talk etc, and it would save time when admin goes back to fix PHs.

That would be a great addition to the draft room.

We updated the list of minor-leaguers in the draft room to include the 30+ players who were taken in the early Draft Champions drafts. International players like Masahiro Tanaka who have not signed with an MLB team won't be added until they are officially in the majors. You will still need to use a Placeholder P for Tanaka until/if he signs with an MLB team. But manay of the other minor-leaguers should be in the system now.

I will start to update the earlier finished DCs with Placeholders this week. If your DC is finished and if someone has a complete list of Placeholders, send to me at [email protected]. Wait until the draft is complete to send it and thanks for doing that.

We should be off and running now. Thanks for your patience all. We have a healthy dose now of the top minor-leaguers in the system and future DCs should cruise more smoothly.

If anyone does want to create a Draft Champions Express League for any day of the week going forward, we can create these on Registration easily. We'd just need the starting date and time and we can add it to Registration. Our first one right now is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 7th, but we can do them sooner if needed. Thanks all and good luck.
