Met Fans..... How do you do it?

Post by ALL-IN JD » Wed Feb 12, 2014 11:25 am

How do you suffer year after and keep coming back for more? A NY team with FAR more resources than other teams and year after year management/ownership refuses to spend money to make the team a contender. Actually, I am lying, that's not true. The Mets desperately needed a power bat in the outfield so the Mets treated their fans to Chris Young! Really? For weeks we read that the Mets were looking to address the back end of their bullpen and voila, today the Mets signed Jose Freaking Valverde!! Really??? What's next? The Mets have been talking about Stephen Drew for weeks, but "only at the right price"!! Really??? What cheap, 1.5 million dollar alternative with they sign instead of Drew to play SS???

I make no bones about the fact that I am a die hard Yankee fan and I hate the Mets but I do feel sorry for Mets fans. As a matter of fact (Glen X, Alan, etc) Yankee fans like myself would be happy to have you guys cross over to the dark side and join us. The Mets don't deserve fans like you!!!

That's what they get for firing Willie Randolph in such a classy way. It's been all down hill since. Granderson and Chris young over /under on K's is 325. I'll take the over. Add in Wright and their 3-4-5 hitters could K 500+. Going to be another long year in Queens. :o

Typical Yankee fan - blah blah blah... the Mets suck.... blah blah blah.... They don't spend any money.... blah blah blah. Funny how the Yankee fans are so obsessed with the Mets, that they still don't understand that spending money has not been the route to their success, but building up a nucleus of homegrown players, and adding on talent from there, has won nearly all of their championships. The Yankees have a incredible history, but you would think they would learn from their successes and try to repeat them. Instead they sign 6 free agents for who knows how much money, depleting their farm system again, let their one superstar leave, and will finish behind the Red Sox again.

I like the path the Mets are taking. Without Harvey this year, I don't think the Mets had much of a chance of making the playoffs. Would signing Drew and Cruz and Fernando Rodney put the Mets in the playoffs this year? NO! So what's the point giving up the future for mediocre players this year. The Mets future isn't just depending on 3 pitchers... they have a lot of pitching talent behind these 3 guys, in case one or more of them fail. I like the plan and although I would like them to improve in a few areas this year, specifically shortstop, I am ok with not giving up a draft pick for a mediocre shortstop.

Ok Yankee fans, why are we killing the Mets while your tremendously underachieving $200 million payroll is gearing up for another 3rd place finish? Love the plan. You have many world championships and you should be proud, but the core is gone, the "real" Steinbrenner is gone, Mantle and Ruth and DiMaggio are all dead, as is the future of the greatest team in "history" ! :D :D

I have one word to describe certain Met fans, DELUSIONAL!! What plan is it that Mets have in place??? When is it that you think they will be executing that plan?? Will we be collecting social security around that time??

As for the way the Yankees build their teams, we got five world series with home grown talent and if thet spend money to compete, so be it. It's within the rules (i believe) and they pay a hefty luxury tax to boot. Rather that then be fed a bill of goods from ownership and then watch a glorified AAA product on the field. As one would say the day before Valentine's Day, it's better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all!! :D :D :D :D

Enjoy that plan that you are happy with!! Looking forward to seeing it in action!!

What championship did the Yankees win with not one home grown star? To bring it to the next level, what championship has anyone won without one home grown star? The Yankees should have figured out by now that you cant just bring together a bunch of high priced free agents and win a championship. Its never been done and until the Yankees prove me wrong, it will be the same old story for the new Steinbrenner error.

I am far from delusional. Did I say the Mets were going to win a championship this year or next year? I said I like the path they are going. Sure, it would be great to sign another guy with Curtis Granderson, but I think the pitching will bring the Mets to another level in the coming years.

You do a bashing Mets thread every year... while your own team continues NOT to win with their new plan. Jeter retires this year and there is no one left... just a bunch of free agents that don't add up to a winning "team". Jeter is the example of a winner who is not a superstar, not physically gifted, not a 40 HR guy, but is a hall of famer because of his intangibles, his ability to play big in the playoffs, his consistency, and his leadership. The Yankees don't have any more Jeters, or Marianos, or Pettites. They have high priced guys who are complacent and over paid.

Continue to bash the Mets... that's fine. It's the Yankee way. :D :D

They are a joke and have EVERY reason to be bashed (ownership that is)! They continue to look for cheap (lousy) options that do nothing to improve their team and appease their fan base. You still didn't answer my question though. What is the plan (path) that they are on (that you are satisfied with) and when do you anticipate they will start "reaping those rewards"?

I am also quite satisfied with the most recent 5 World Series victories and if they struggle to win another won soon I can live with that. But one thing is for sure. I know management and ownership will do EVERYTHING possible to make that happen. Can you say the same? It's all good though I respect your passion!!

My friend, you hang onto the fading memories of those Championships long gone by. Although they were aided by the chemists of Brian McNamee and Balco, MLB has yet to announce the well deserved asterisks that should go next to each of those titles. So you may as well enjoy them while you can.

And though the well known cheats that contributed to your stolen championships, Roger Clemens, Andy Pettitte, and ARod have either been banished to retirement or suspension, and the few "allegedly" clean focal points of those teams, Mariano and Jeter, have either retired or hung on two seasons too long, at least you still have more Boston players to root for. Clemens, Boggs, Damon, now Ellsbury. You might as well add those 5 championships to Boston's three.

Nonetheless, with Jeter's impending retirement (aka the Feds must be sniffing around), the last of the Fab Poor is heading out the door along with the last vestiges of the Bronx's glory days. Maybe the second coming of Hideki Irabu will save the day! :D

So while this year and last were dedicated to celebrating the past glories of the Yankees with Mariano & Jeter's retirement tours, we can soon turn the page on that criminal reign and start looking ahead to the future glories of our friends in Queens.

Some of you can mock Harvey, Wheeler, Syndergaard, Niese, Gee, Mejia, Montero, etc. etc. etc. as Pulsipher, Wilson, and Isringhausen, but WE ALL KNOW that it is more likely the second coming of Seaver, Koosman, Ryan, and Matlack or Gooden, Darling, El Sid, and Aguilera. How did those pitching staffs work out?

Add in Travis D'Arnaud, Dominic Smith, Wilmer Flores, Brandon Nimmo, Cesar Puello, Gavin Cecchini, Kevin Plawecki, etc etc etc to a hitting core that still includes David Wright, Daniel Murphy, and Curtis Granderson, and I think we'd have to say this is akin to 1968 or 1983 when the pieces started coming together, even though the less informed (aka Yankees fans) couldn't see it.

Add in the money we'll be able to spend when these pieces are ready because we resisted in wasting it today, similar to how we were able to add Clendenon in '69 or Hernandez/Carter in the mid-80's, and I think it's obvious that we're at the brink of another 1969 or 1986.

Scoff all you want non-believers. In a year or so, we won't care what you'll be whining when Harvey's leading the blue and orange down Broadway. 8-)
