Innings rule exactly. Is it only 1/3 of an inning? Please give a thorough explanation

Thanks

Spy You must have at least 1/3 of an inning in the mid-season league to qualify for any of the five pitching categories.

That is it? you can have 1 reliever play for 1 week and that is it? I assume Mathis league then as along as you draft a player who had 1/3 of an innning, that would count as well?

HUGE GAP in the rules in my opinion. Seriously. I will be forced to adopt this stratey in the mid season leagues if not addressed

Spy - I guess the rule is/was that we only needed our entire staff of 9 pitchers to accumulate a total of one out combined for the whole season to qualify for ERA and WHIP points. Honestly, I didn't know that we had a 1/3 inning rule and more honestly, I don't know if it would have changed my draft evenf I did. Most honestly, I think that rule needs to be changed before we have future drafts full of DL'd and retired players.

Some of these guys used the 1/3 innning rule to load up on offense and some did it better than others. 1/3 of an inning for a staff of 9 pitchers is a POOR rule. Personally I think it mocks the game; but it is allowed for now.

Pete
OK - So I'm not as good as I thought I was; but at least I am consistent.

Pete Yes, the 1/3 inning applies to the Don Mathis League as well. Again, that was our minimum in all of our contests last year. We will increase the minimum for our mid-season leagues next year. Had we instituted a minimum this year it would have been 200 IP. Will the teams you are mentioning have reached 200 IP with their closer pickups?

It depends. Don Mathis is only playing 3 active closers, so I doubt he would make 200 innings. I believe the others would have the innings for the second half. Of course, all three have very low era/whip due to the the high quality mrs / cls that they picked up. I think the Don Mathis league is a bit special because you can totally mitigate the normal risk that the limited innings strategy normally entails. Normally, you could have a MR/CL melt down and destroy your era and whip (see Lidge this year). With the Don Mathis league, you can orchestrate it so that you could easily get to 200 innings pitched (assuming 5 pitchers get 40 innings). I think that the minimum should be raised to 800 (400 each half). This would mean that people can still play a MR/CL strategy if they want, but all the slots would have to be active. They may need 1 starter to ensure they get to the innings but that would be it.
