Billy Hamilton
Re: Billy Hamilton
In my $350 online he was drafted 9th overall. I think he'll be ok, but I don't understand drafting him that early and ahead of proven guys like Beltre, Ellsbury and Harper to name just a few. Hamilton maybe two cats and the other guys can all be 5 cat guys.
Re: Billy Hamilton
I agree with what you say except I wouldn't say Harper has proven he belongs in the first round...yet.ghost wrote:In my $350 online he was drafted 9th overall. I don't know about that. I've actually owned a few starting pitchers who would have been more valuable to me if they weren't in the lineup.DOUGHBOYS wrote:He also could be the only player in fantasy history that is just as valuable out of the lineup, maybe even more so, than in the lineup.

You mean PH or PR????
Big difference there, as PH would make him useless and droppable in all formats IMO...

Re: Billy Hamilton
I know it's really early in the season, but i think I've seen enough. I decided to bench him this week in favor of Bourjos.
It paid off today.
I'm hoping that Hamilton turns it around soon.

Re: Billy Hamilton
I will agree that Billy looks a little overmatched so far, but he gave you that one glimpse of how impactful he can be when he got his first hit yesterday at St. Louis. It was a rather routine single to right field in the top of the first inning that he easily turned into a double with pure hustle and speed.ikenbaseball wrote:I know it's really early in the season, but i think I've seen enough. Then for whatever reason, the Reds wasted Brandon Phillips as they had him bunt Hamilton over to third. Why? Why waste an out there and take the bat out of Phillips' hands? And then of course Joey Votto hit to the second baseman, who was playing in, and Hamilton was caught between home and third. A waste of Hamilton's first hit of the season.
Hamilton failed to get a hit in his next four at-bats and couldn't even drive in a run with runners on first and third and one out. He does look overmatched, but ooooooooooooohhh, that speed is tantalizing, isn't it?

Re: Billy Hamilton
What i'm interested in is how those who drafted Billy approached drafting speed in the rest of the draft?
With 150-160 needed for top 20% in the ME did you project him hitting half that number?
It''s the ultimate risk/reward pick as if he gets sent down those who went out to win this category could finish last in it.

Re: Billy Hamilton
Ex-Hamilton, most of my teams with him are probably looking at a projected 90-100 SBs. So, depending on what you can do on the waiver wire you may lose 5-10 points in SBs, but with potential to gain some back in BA and RBI. Drafting around him, you should be in good shape already for BA/Power and/or Pitching since you don't 'have to waste high picks on speed or speed/power combo guys.mattjb wrote:What i'm interested in is how those who drafted Billy approached drafting speed in the rest of the draft?

Every draft pick is a trade-off, so I'm not sure losing him is any better/worse than having any injury/under-performance from a 3rd/4th round pick. The way most of my Hamilton teams were set-up ... if he played all season at a high level I'd be benching him here and there anyway since I wouldn't need a full season of his SB potential.

Re: Billy Hamilton
As I mentioned in my previous post, I drafted Hamilton because he was the best player on the board for that particular round and that particular team makeup. The players that were falling to me dictated my draft strategy.
I started my draft with Trout, Desmond, Joe Fernandez, Marte, Hamilton. Then I loaded up on power/average based players later on in the draft. i.e Billy Butler, Aaron Hill.
So, as far as SB go, I'll still be in pretty good shape. I drafted Bourjos as insurance just in case Hamilton doesn't hit.
I felt that if Hamilton stole 60-80 bases then my team would be in good position to be tops in Runs and SB overall.
Even without Hamilton, my DC team is still positioned be middle of the pack in SB.

Re: Billy Hamilton
I do not have Hamilton anywhere this year other than my salary cap games (and that is more so out of fear). Watching Reds/Cards game and damn if he doesnt have game-changing speed. Watch the bottom of the 4th inning sequence and how he single-handedly scored a run with his speed. Very impressive.

Hamilton was more trouble in the Main Event than 12-team formats. The upside is that he has the potential to get your team halfway home in the SB category by himself. The problem is he was going in rounds 3-5, which means you needed to be able to count on 50+ steals from him, given his likely lack of production in Average, HR and RBI.
Re: Billy Hamilton
A few eyes opened yesterday. Lets see if he can have a repeat performance, or at the very least, 1-4 with a SB and run scored. I would take that every night and be happy with it.Captain Hook wrote:Funny that after his best game of the year there are no chirps on this thread

I believe he'll be productive this year. I just didn't believe enough to bet my Main Event season on it.

I'm surprised you'd "take" 162 runs and 162 SB's.BK METS wrote:A few eyes opened yesterday. Lets see if he can have a repeat performance, or at the very least, 1-4 with a SB and run scored. Re: Billy Hamilton
Can someone post what the % started numbers were for him this week? I assume that some threw him on the bench after his slow start and benching last Sunday.
