Mookie Betts Free Agent Eligibility

Post by Tom Kessenich » Sun Jun 29, 2014 4:34 pm

A reminder that Betts needs to play in a game before he's eligible to be picked up as a free agent in our leagues. Since he had not appeared in a game before this morning's deadline he is not eligible to be bid on today.

1 vote for the rule to be changed to call up date for next season.

I mean really - people playing in these events aren't paying attention and need to see the name in a box score to bid?

It's not about watching someone play. It's about the timing of when a player is "officially" activated according to MLB.

There have been times in the past when a team has announced on Saturday that 'X' player is being recalled and will start on Sunday. But the "official" activation doesn't actually take place until Sunday.
Then on Sunday afternoon everyone takes to these boards and wants to know why player X is not available even though the team said on Saturday that he was being activated. It's because MLB didn't make it official until Sunday, missing the NFBC's cutoff.

It's was decided that the best way to avoid those situations was to make 1 game played our official activation point. I think it's a good rule.

Sorry Russ but how about after the transaction is official as reported by MLB.com?
I agree the "will be"; "is going to" things don't count but once someone IS activated they should be available the day after

Hell I play in mixed and only leagues where someone activated on Saturday is available for FAAB that night - certainly activated on Saturday should be available on Sunday
