MLB Awards

Post by BK METS » Tue Sep 16, 2014 7:42 am

Here is my take on the yearly MLB awards. Anyone differ?

NL MVP - Clayton Kershaw
NL Cy Young - Clayton Kershaw
NL Rookie of the year - Jacob deGrom

AL MVP - Mike Trout
AL Cy Young - Felix Hernandez
AL Rookie of the Year - Jose Abreu

No shockers. I can see maybe Billy Hamilton as the NL ROY. Thoughts?

I agree with all of your predictions. While I normally am not crazy about pitchers winning the MVP, it is more than justified in this case. Also, while I thought for some time that Billy Hamilton would win NL ROY, deGrom deserves it; what a great year he has had. Although King Felix definitely deserves the AL Cy Young, I would like to see Corey Kluber come in second - his numbers are outstanding and almost match Hernandez's numbers (albeit he did it more "under the radar").

I can't argue too much with your choices, but I will have to at least mention Giancarlo's name for NL MVP. Especially as great hitting is getting harder and harder to find.

.288/37/102 is a great line in this day and age. The real shocker is that he hit .310/27/67 at home in that ball park, how anyone does that is superhuman.

The AL ROY getting no press is Matt Shoemaker. 16-4 with a 3.04 era and 1.07 Whip. He's definitely the most valuable rookie. Is he not a rookie? What am I missing?

I definitely agree that Shoemaker is having a great year, but Jose Abreu, if the White Sox were in contention, would be a borderline MVP candidate. 35-103-.319 (top 5 in all 3 triple crown categories), plus leads the league in slugging percentage and OPS.

You aren't missing anything... Abreu is just better.

Stanton = Hank Aaron Award, Kershaw is MVP....
AL could be more dicey for Hank Aaron....I know it is newer award but should be considered equal to Cy Young, will just take time
Just needs one controversial decision to draw more attention to it.
