NY April 2 Auction Question - Would 5 pm ET Work?

Post by Tom Kessenich » Tue Nov 18, 2014 12:19 pm

We have the Thursday April 2 auction set for 6 pm ET. Would those of you taking part or planning to take part be OK with a 5 pm ET start if we pushed it back an hour? That might make it easier for people traveling on those days to get home. Let me know your thoughts and if everyone is OK with the new time we can make that happen. Thanks.

I'm working Thursday and can't catch a train to the city until after 1:00. I would arrive @3:50 if the train runs on time. Still have to get to the hotel and check in so that's a close call. Six works better for me but I'll try to do what's best for everyone else. Here's wishing everyone a safe and happy holiday season.

Thanks Hal. Maybe split the difference and go 5:30?

What I want to avoid is being done around midnight. For anyone who isn't staying in the city that makes it real tough on them to get back home. I am going to emphasize moving the auctions at a faster pace this year. I'm not going to rush people but we've had auctions take around 7 hours in NY and that's just too long in my opinion and I really don't want that to occur any more. I'd like to see them get done in around 5 hours. I think that's a reasonable time and not one that should make people feel as if they're being rushed.

I'm open to discussion about this so if anyone has any suggestions please let me know. :)

5:30 should work for me Tom. The auctioneer has a lot to do with how long the draft takes IMO. It's very helpful for the auctioneer to know the players and establish a steady cadence. One year the guy running an auction had no idea of who the players were and how to pronounce their names and it delayed things considerably. At another auction Todd Zola ran things and it was a much better experience...just my two cents which is more than I cashed for in NYC last year.

It is. I updated the first post. Friday was starting at 5 ET the whole time. That was my mistake. Sorry about that.

Tom, 5:30 works for me. Maybe cut down on the interim break time if the draft is not moving fast enough. Agreed that the auctioneer makes all the difference.
