"Ike Davis said a physical exam last year showed that he still had traces of valley fever.
Davis was originally diagnosed in 2012, but the Mets said at the time that he wasn't showing any symptoms. However, he clearly felt the effects and the condition has lingered. "Valley fever is a nightmare," said Davis. "You have no energy, no nothing. It was definitely a weird one. It's supposed to go away on its own, but when I had an X-ray last year, it showed I still had it. I'm hoping that's over and done with." Davis batted just .233 with 11 home runs and a .722 OPS in 143 games last season between the Mets and Pirates, but he's feeling stronger now that he has in several years. The A's plan to use him as their primary first baseman against right-handers, so he should be relevant in AL-only fantasy leagues."
Conor Jackson never got over it. Have any other ballplayers besides Davis and Jackson ever contracted Valley Fever?

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

I contracted the canthitacurveball virus back around age 13. Never got over it. Kept me out of the majors. At least those guys had some semblance of a career.

Is it any wonder why we pay little attention to teams stating things like "Jose Fernandez could be back by June 15"?
For some reason, clubs paint the rosiest of pictures for players. They leave out anything negative.
Then, when players don't meet those rosy expectations, less is thought of those players and it isn't till later that the real truth is found.
Other clubs may have given Davis a chance if it was known he was still battling the virus.
As it was, the Mets had to give away Davis to a club whose thinking was along the same lines as fantasy baseball players....That Davis just plain sucked.

Steve Stone got Valley Fever when he was broadcasting for the Cubs. He ended up missing the final 6 weeks of the 2000 season because of it. He retired after the season and stayed out of broadcasting for the next two seasons before coming back in 2003.Edwards Kings wrote: Have any other ballplayers besides Davis and Jackson ever contracted Valley Fever?
