Mike Trout

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Wed Feb 25, 2015 5:42 pm

Unless Mike Trout gets hurt or something unfathomable happens to him, he will be the number one pick in all important drafts and most others.
Today, a rotobyte came out about Trout aiming to strike out less and steal more bases.
Here it is....

'Mike Trout said Wednesday that two of his biggest goals for this season are to cut down on his strikeouts and increase his stolen bases.
Both goals would be a good thing for fantasy owners. Trout led the AL with 184 strikeouts last season, which he believes was a result of him chasing the high pitch. He plans to show more restraint in 2015, so getting his average closer to .300 again isn't out of the realm of possibility. Trout stole just 16 bases last season after amassing 33 in 2013 and 49 in 2012. We'd like to see some more speed from him, but it would really just be a bonus. He should be the consensus No. 1 pick in most fantasy leagues this year.'

I chuckled after reading this. After all, Trout is a fan pleaser and great teammate.Nobody in baseball has nary a bad word to say about Mike Trout.
Then, there is the sabr society. Sabrs love their walks. Sabr's hate their strike outs. It messes up their math when a player as good as Trout strikes out nearly as much as Adam Dunn. They know that Mike Trout is the best player on earth. They just want him to strike out less so that they can claim him as a sabr darling too.

Then, there is us. The fantasy community. We're picky.
Yes Mr. Trout, you dominate our hobby, but please, what happened to the stolen bases?
Besides those 100's of runs and rbi and 36 homers, where were our 30 stolen bases. 16?
We have to live with 16?

It seems like Trout was trying to ease tensions among two communities that have become a lot louder in baseball circles.
And this wasn't the first time.
Here are two Rotobytes from last year about this same time......

'Mike Trout has vowed to be more aggressive early in the count this year in an effort to cut down on his strikeouts.
As if Trout needed to do anything else to be even better at the plate, he continues to look for ways to improve his game. He whiffed 136 times in 2013 while walking a league-best 110 times. Thus far in Cactus League play, he has fanned only four times in 32 plate appearances.'

And then there was this......

'Mike Trout said Wednesday in Angels camp that he wants to steal more bases this season.
"I thought my stolen bases were down last year," Trout said. "I have to take advantage of taking that extra base." Trout's stolen bases fell from 49 in 2012 to "just" 33 last season. Trying to find an area for improvement is nitpicking for the two-time MVP runner-up, but the 22-year-old says he's in the best shape he's ever been in and a return to center field on a full-time basis could lead to an improved overall comfort level.

After saying these things in 2014, he went out and struck out more and stole less.
And we loved it.
Mike Trout wishing he would have struck out less and stolen more is to baseball, as to God wishing he wouldn't have rested that seventh day to religion.
The bulk and quality of the work far exceeds the regrets.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!
