450 Teams In The 2015 NFBC Main Event

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Sun Apr 05, 2015 10:22 am

This was a record-breaking season in the NFBC as we Sold Out almost every single contest, led by our signature contest the Main Event. This year we finished with a record 30 leagues and 450 teams!! That late push put us 2 leagues and 30 teams over last year's total and thus we'll update the prizes as stated below. Great job everyone.

Let me fly home tomorrow and get busy on the numbers this week to update things. Awesome job everyone and thanks for taking us past our previous record of 450 teams. A BIG THANKS to everyone who participated as every single Main Event and Primetime League went off on time with participants always at the draft table and ready to go before the start time. That makes our jobs so much easier, so thank you for that.

We also felt the addition of the 4 digital projectors made several of the drafts and auctions so much better as the new draft boards were much, much clearer. We apologize to those owners who had Main Events in leagues where our technology didn't include the HD projectors, but we are already purchasing additional HD projectors for 2015 NFFC and all live NFBC drafts will have those projectors in 2016. They really do make a helluva difference.

Thanks again everyone and best of luck in the hunt for our $125,000 grand prize. Nothing is changing there as we look forward to handing the $125,000 check to one of you 450 owners. Here's a look at the updated prize pool for the Main Event:

2015 NFBC Main Event Overall Prizes:
1st Place - $125,000
2nd Place - $35,000
3rd Place - $25,000
4th Place - $12,500
5th Place - $8,000
6th Place - $5,500
7th Place - $3,500
8th Place - $2,500
9th Place - $2,000
10th Place - $1,750
11th Place - $1,600

Greg and Tom,

Congrats on the great draft season!! I am so happy I got to experience Chicago. I had a great time!! I realize it is not Bellagio, but it made no difference as everyone there was a true NFBC'er!! It was great to see Greg and Dale Morgan receive their championship plaque! Once the draft started it seemed like I as in Vegas or NYC because of the common purpose, drafting a winner!
The food was great and it was nice to be welcomed to Chicago by Mr. Peterson (God, I feel like an idiot since I forgot his first name). I am glad he was wearing his 10 year NFBC anniversary shirt!!  The food was great and w e were able to sit and eat in the Sheraton restaurant right outside of the draft room. I have now experienced all three host cities (well, let us not forget Orlando, so, 3/4).

Again, thanks for the experience.

And Greg and Tom,

I had the honor of drafting next to Jim. And with Mike on my other side, was great getting to draft next to 2 good guys.

Chicago auction and main ran smoothly and yes the food was really good. Thanks for keeping Chicago alive for the main event and auction.

Rich, likewise, it was a pleasure to meet you and draft next to you. You're a great person. Hopefully, you come in second place in our league :P :P

I'm finalizing that now. In the Main Event, the two additional leagues adds around $15,000. My feeling is that the best way to spread the wealth to as many people as possible is to improve the league prizes for all 30 leagues. That could improve the total for 90 different people. It won't be a big bump, but it makes sense. I'll post that when I can, but rather than improve 5-10 overall prizes a little, spreading the wealth in the league prizes makes the most sense to me.

Thoughts?

I'd much rather have the 15,000 divided up between 5-10th and even adding a 12th identical to 11th place money than each league getting an additional 500 dollars. We are all in it for the big bucks and now that we have to beat an extra 30 folks lets make those top 11(or maybe 12 prizes) even juicier.

What does everyone else think?

The two extra leagues reduce the likelihood of winning the overall, it does not affect individual league competition. I'd add it to the overall in the form of paying teams finishing 12th - 20th overall $1600.

The odds are stronger for all of us that we'll finish top 3 in league instead of top 10 overall. So my vote is to increase the league prizes.

Bump up 2nd-10th. Why is 11th getting paid, who cares about 11th ???

Finishing top 20 in this contest is pretty special. I'd go:

7- 4000
8-3500
9-3000
10-2500
11-2000
12-1750
13-1600
14-1600
15-1500
16-1000
17-1000
18-500
19-500
20-500

Nice symmetry and all the math works out too.

I think 2-5 overall need a bump. say about 5k each for 2nd 3rd and 2500 for 4th. maybe a thousand for 5th and then add money for 12

No, no, no...weekly prizes. Let's see, a Pete Rose autographed baseball goes for $100 or so each, so the $48,000 will buy about 480 of those suckers... :?

Please forget the bumping of the league prizes idea. The league prizes are perfect as is. Bump 2-10 for the Overall. If you want to add a 12th place prize, I'm fine with that. I'm also fine with just keeping it top 10 as KJ suggested as well and bumping those spots even more.

PS... Will you be following up with the revised prize structures for the Rotowire OC and DC Championships as well?

Looking at it a little closer, just bump 2-5....

1st - $125,000
2nd - Bump from $30,000 to $35,000
3rd - Bump from $20,000 to $25,000
4th - Bump from $10,000 to $12,500
5th - Bump from $7,500 to $10,000
6th - $5,000
7th - $3,000
8th - $2,000
9th - $1,750
10th - $1,600
11th - $1,600

That looks fine to me. Reward those who most earned it and narrow some of the disparity between those who won it all and those who just missed out.

That's closer to what I'd like too GX, could go a little further.

I'd like to see all of the overall pays go with this philosophy ▬ "Top 5 gets paid well, Top 10 gets something, the rest can be happy with league prizes".

1st - $125,000
2nd - $35,000
3rd - $25,000
4th - $15,000
5th - $10,000
6th - $3,200
7th - $3,200
8th - $1,600
9th - $1,600
10th - $1,600

You're right. Why do I even ask you sonofabitches for thoughts anymore!! :? All it does is get me grief from all sides.

I try to pay more people and there's grief to be had. The non-Chum Chum Club guys who want more prizes paid to more people don't dare set foot with their thoughts on this thread or they get shot down. So we listen to the sharks who want more at the top. I get it.

My bad for asking. I'll just make a damn decision next time. Same for the other contests.

While I am typically in favor of putting more money back into the individual leagues, the fact is that $15,000 spread amongst 30 leagues would increase league prizes by only $500 which is hardly a game changer. As such, I agree with sprinkling the $15,000 money amongst places 3-10 with more added at the front (majority at the top 3 since "showing" is traditionally a premium finish) and a bit more towards back end. Finishing in top 10 out of 430 teams is still impressive and should be rewarded more, in my opinion. And I spent why more time thinking about this than I should have - procrastination is a disease.

PROPOSAL:

1) $100,000
2) $30,000 (adding $5,000)
3) $20,000 (adding $5,000)
4) $10,000 (same)
5) $8,000 (adding $500)
6) $6,000 (adding $1,000)
7) $4,000 (adding $1000)
8) $3,000 (adding $1000)
9) $2,500 (adding $750)
10) $2,000 (adding $500)
11) $1,750 (adding $250)(debatable but not sure where to throw the extra $250)

Seeing KJ's and Glenn's prize structures now, I like their ideas better. I would suggest eliminating the 11th place award and sprinkle that in as well.

Ummm Coz.... you're looking at the prize structure from 2013. Understandable mistake since the link to the Main Event from the message boards brings you to the 2013 prize structure and draft dates.

Hey Greg, maybe we should invest a little of that extra dough into an IT upgrade. :D Just kidding, just kidding.

Haha. Oh. That is exactly what I did. Just disregard mine then. I like KJ's and your thought process. You guys can take it from here. It was a nice little distraction for me from returning phone calls and doing anything productive.

Guess I was the only non-chum chum club guy to respond :D

A 3 out of 15 chance to get some of that added $500 in each league still sounds good to me. I still vote conservative and I'll take my 20 percent chance to win a little extra.
