I thought only organizations like the Rockies were low rent enough to offer a manager a one year deal, but apparently this is the way Mike Rizzo is going to run this team. Insult the best manager on the market and then sign arguably the worst.
Baker has been less able to destroy arms (Wood, Prior, Harang) in recent years as he longer routinely sends starters over the 120 pitch mark, like he did with Wood 13 times in 2003, which pretty much finished him @ 26. He will continue to chain promising youngsters to the bench, though. Anybody getting excited about Trea Turner this season had better consider the veterany goodness of Yunel Escobar and Danny Espinosa first.

The Manager of the Year Award is voted on by 28 members of the Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA). Each places a vote for first, second, and third place among the managers of each league. The manager with the highest score in each league wins the award.
What does 1993, 1997, and 2000 have in common? Dusty Baker.
But this is just me poking you in the ribs as a joke. Dusty will destroy this team, but honestly i do not think next year. I think (a questionable precept I admit) that the Nats severely underachieved last year. How else do you explain the Mets (
)? But anyway, Dusty will take what is there and have a great season with them next year. After that? It won't look so good.

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Great movie and book, although you lost me on why you included it?Edwards Kings wrote:The Manager of the Year Award is voted on by 28 members of the Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA). The fact that some MLB teams pay their managers less than some SEC college football assistant coaches seems to indicate the job must be perceived as nothing more than a babysitter by some clubs. Not sure if they are right or not, but the Nats deserve everything they get from Baker.

Do these guys look like they are operating at peek, championship-level performance or a bunch of physical and mental basket cases?Teufel Hunden wrote:Great movie and book, although you lost me on why you included it?

The irony is they were watching a pretend baseball game in that scene and Nickolson's announcing was far better than anyone I heard working the playoffs this year....

More incompetence for Wash DC. Mattingly and Dusty Baker now running two teams with great young talent in the division ... good times ahead for the Mets.

Collins isn't exactly the most competent manager. You can't force your guys to field little league grounders cleanly, but the defensive positioning on Hosmer's 9th inning double was a head scratcher.KJ Duke wrote:More incompetence for Wash DC.
