The 2016 Contract League (MLBC) FULL

Post by KJ Duke » Wed Dec 30, 2015 12:11 am

This season will mark the 10th Contract League (in 7 years). In recent years the league has alternated between FAAB and DC formats This year it swings back to FAAB, with one significant change.

In the past, private pool payouts have been 35% for 1st, 25% for 2nd, 15% for 3rd, and 25% for MOY (mgr of the year, or the team that most outperforms their payroll), plus an additional $1500 to 1st. This has led to an increasingly bifurcated contest, with a few big spenders chasing the top spots and more and more low-payroll teams competing almost exclusively for MOY. That wasn't the league's original intent but that's the direction we've been trending.

The revised payout - cutting MOY from 25% to 15% - puts a LOT more emphasis on competing for those top 3 spots, which should bring about a lot more balance in how teams spend their payroll dollars.
1st 40% plus $1500
2nd 30%
3rd 15%
MOY 15%

So, if for example the p.p. is $20k, payouts would be:
1st $9500
2nd $6000
3rd $3000
MOY $3000

Tentative slow draft start date: January 22nd
Last year's participants/standings were:
1• E Albright
2• M Anderson
3• G Lowy
4 • S Childs ♦moy
5 • J Pausma
6 • Greenberg/Dobies
7 • Duke
8 • D Shovein
9 • K Norred
10• J/D Anthony
11 • P Weber
12 • B Fearon
13 • R Martin
14 • B Pucci
15 • T Cohan

Last year's players have first right of refusal, but with the changes in store I expect to have more open spots than usual (it's usually close to zero); post below if you have interest. This league is a blast, a chess game among fantasy checkers leagues (as I believe Dough has called it).

For more details, PM me or see the league blog for last season here ... http://mlbc10.blogspot.com/ The league is hosted on the NFBC site.

Alright, after some discussion via email the MOY cut will be a bit less harsh than originally proposed, reducing it to 15% rather than 10%. First post above has been edited to show revised pool.

As usual the Duke is right :D

Whether I had my brother as my partner or competed by myself I was definitely out for MOY. Although Joey was always willing to buy a Yu, whereas I wanted to stick to the Yugo's  I will say that I had delusions ;) of somehow pulling off a top 3 finish (in addition to MOY) but nevertheless MOY was the focus.

KJ is absolutely right that the league has turned into 3 or 4 big spenders with the rest chasing MOY. I believe it would still be a fun league to compete in if there were no changes made, but feel what KJ is proposing will indeed make it even better.

Now if Shawn & Shovein actually do take the year off maybe we'd have a shot at MOY...of course Glenn may follow through with his "threat" of going for MOY....yeah, and pigs.......

Alright, 8 of 11 players are returning so far and I'm waiting to hear back from 4 more.

EDIT Two of the outs just changed their mind :) , so now 10 of 11 are in and still waiting to hear on the other four.

Matt Modica has taken a spot, so 11 spots are full and I'm waiting to hear from 4 former owners. Odds are we'll have at least one more opening.

Post below if you have interest, this league isn't easy to get into and I only run one per season.

Since we have lots of time until draft day, we'll go back to bidding for draft slots this year ...

How to bid:
• List each draft slot in your preferred order with a bid next to each slot. Zero bids are allowed
• You can have lower priced bids higher, for example if you'd rather have slot #15 for $0, list that higher than #1 for $200
• In terms of processing, I will go thru everyone's list to find their highest preference that has a winning bid.
• In-season FAAB will be deducted the amount of your listed bid for the slot you win.
• If a tiebreaker is needed, I will use total amount bid on all draft slots.
• If you do not submit a bid in time, you get what is left for $0.
• I will submit my bids to a third party in advance of taking bids from others.

We'll set a time for slot bidding after the last spot is taken, at the earliest next weekend and at the latest the weekend before draft day.

Also, 2016 salaries are posted here: http://mlbc10.blogspot.com/ , along with historical results updated thru 2015 and the new prize pool percentages.

These will be the final salaries for all listed pending gross negligence/typos on my part. Unsigned players are at last year's salary, and unlisted players are at the league minimum $5.

Salary Corrections:
C Kimbrel $113
Hyun-soo Kim $28

Last spot has been filled, an MLBC first-timer, Rob Barshop.

Next step is to bid for draft slots. We'll set the bid deadline for some time next week, more to come later.

Right on schedule, Gek.

Having second thoughts about crossing over to the Senior Circuit? That's not really your strength. :?

I've never done the NL Auction. Probably be a learning curve.
