Gets more crowded for the Pirates hitters.
- with LaRoche at 1B, Nady moves back to the OF
--if he goes to right, Jose Bautista either wins the job at 3B and Jose Castillo is the odd man out
-- or Castillo plays 2B and Freddy Sanchez plays 3B and Bautista is the odd man out
Also interesting for the Braves:
-- they could move Chipper to 1B
-- Willy Aybar to 3B
-- if Jones stays at 3B, is Scot Thorman ready at 1B?
Mike Gonzalez presumably sets up for Wickman thus reducing both his value and Rafael Soriano's at the same time

The more interesting battle could be Gonzalez vs Wickman as closer... Gonzalez is more lights out, but being a lefty they might prefer him for situational and setup.

I think the Braves will trade a reliever- but that it will be Soriano. Braves covet Baldelli big time do not be shocked to see them make a deal there.
Sure the current back end of the Braves pen could be unbelievable but I find it hard to believe that on opening day they will have holes at 2b,1b, and Lf not to mention the 35 games Chipper will miss.
Thorman is the interesting guy they say they have no problem playing him at first- I thought that was just to drive up his value because the Pirates had some interest in him as plan b, at worst who does he platoon with Chris Woodward?

Great trade for the Pirates -- they really needed another "big bat" in their lineup. Jason Bay is a happy man tonight.
As for the Braves, I agree with others that another trade is likely in the works. With Andruw Jones almost certainly gone after -- if not during -- 2007, a centerfielder is likely to be their target.

I think this is a good trade for the Braves. Anytime you get an arm like Gonzalez, that has to be a plus.
I like LaRoche, good swing, good age, nice pedigree, but last year he hit over his head, power and average-wise. That plus Citizens appears even worse on LH power than The Ted really downgrades LaRoche in my book.
The Braves have quickly turned one of last years weaknesses into a strength in the bullpen, but I agree that at least one of the new additions will be traded. Hopefully for a LO man who will move to center when Andruw signs with Boston/St. Louis/Chicago (Cubbies or Sox)/any other team with a big budget in '08.
From what I have read, Cox really likes Thorman. He will be the main man.
Chipper will play 155 games this year and the Braves will be back in the playoffs with Hampton as the team MVP.

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Wrong park... PNC Park is where the Pirates reside and the Clemente Wall (21 feet tall) with 320 down the line is a lefties paradise
