Tuesday Night FSTA Draft: I Have The 8th Pick

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Sun Jan 17, 2016 9:51 am

On Tuesday night at 7 pm ET, the FSTA Industry Draft will be held at the Omni Hotel in Dallas. I'll be representing the NFBC and I'll actually be drafting with my good buddy Brady Tinker. Should be a lot of fun.

We have the 8th pick in the draft, which gives us a lot of good, young options in the first round. I'm looking forward to using the NFBC ADPs for my draft guide and building a championship team. My lack of pitching depth and my failure to keep two healthy closers were my downfalls last year, so let's see if I can do better in those areas this year. Brady will keep me on my toes, that's for sure.

Anyway, you can watch the draft results on this RT Sports draft board:

http://www.rtsports.com/siriusxm

This will be carried live on SiriusXM Fantasy Sports Radio as well. I believe we start at 7 pm ET.

Here's the combatants and the draft order:

1 - Scout Fantasy Mark Bloom (Dr. Roto)
2 - RotoWire Jeff Erickson & Derek Van Riper
3 - USA Today Sports Steve Gardner, Howard Kamen partner, Defending Champs
4 - Fantistics Fantasy Sports Anthony Perri
5 - Baseball HQ Ray Murphy
6 - FNTSY Nando Di Fino, Michael Cardano partner
7 - Godfather Of Fantasy Sports Charlie Wiegert, Vlad Sedler partner
8 - Stats/NFBC Greg Ambrosius, Brady Tinker partner
9 - Colton & The Wolfman Glenn Colton, Rick Wolf, Stacie Stern, partners
10 - SiriusXM Fantasy Radio Ray Flowers
11 - Fantasy Alarm Jeff Mans, Ted Schuster partner
12 - Mastersball Todd Zola, Lawr Michaels partner
13 - Ronshandler.com Ron Shandler

Okay, the first person who gets my first two picks right wins a beer in Las Vegas!! What do you think they will be? Let's hear it.

McCutchen and Gordon.
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

My question is why can't you use your considerable clout and get this thing changed to some sort of legitimate format...like say a 15 team league?! I mean even 12 would make more sense.

Impossible to say when it is only thirteen teams (so we can't guess from early DC ADP) and when some of these guys will make a pick they can write up to say "I took him in the first round" when they would never do that if they had money on the line.

Really depends who you want to have a beer with because many of the suggestion are easy manipulations - reaching for McCutchen at 1.08 you could have a number of reasonable picks left in the second round.

If they are playing the national anthem before the draft or the banquet you could borrow the opening line and pick "Jose" twice and see quite nicely ....

Arrieta @ 3/8 as the sixth SP off the board. You know he's happy with that.

I unfortunately had a family emergency on Monday and was unable to attend the FSTA Trade Conference this week. Tom also wasn't scheduled to attend and I was unable to get him down there to replace me. Brady Tinker thankfully stepped in for us and I had hoped to converse with him beforehand but our situation prevented that. I never was able to converse with him about our intentions.

I appreciate all that Brady did and we'll manage this team together during the season, but I think Brady went too old-school here. He went after power and speed, but in today's game you can't avoid pitching on Draft Day. He left with too little pitching. I'm not sure where those pitching points come from. He also got the power and speed but at the risk of Batting Average, which you don't like to do on Draft Day. But again it wasn't the situation we wanted, both professionally and personally, but life throws you a curveball sometimes.

I wanted to be in Dallas this week for so many reasons, but it wasn't in the cards. With the current DFS situation and with all of the potential business partners that we deal with going on down there, it really was important for me to be there. I know I'm missing a lot, starting just with this draft, but life sucks sometimes. And right now it really sucks.

Oh, by the way, I definitely would have started Machado-Betts, so that's the winning ticket!! I definitely would have taken Arrieta in Round 3 but then came back with more pitching. I would have gone Greinke after that and probably Bogaerts. I think that would have been a really balanced start while filling some key positions. But so be it. Time to support this team and go.

Enjoy the draft results. Baseball season is underway throughout the industry. Good luck all.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and prayers. This has easily been the most difficult yet MOST SPIRITUAL week of my life and more work is still ahead. God works in mysterious ways, as I am watching first-hand. We are good with the path HE has chosen.
