Re: 2016 NFBC Cutline Signup Thread
I'll eventually sign up for at least one of these, but the scoring in general is kind of wacky. For example, a batter will basically get a -1 for a walk? -1 for the at bat and 0 pts for the walk, yet a pitcher will get a -1 for issuing a walk. Seems like a batter should get +1 for a walk and a -1 for a SO. And a single, double and triple are all 4 pts? Must have been some rhyme or reason to this, just seems strange.
Re: 2016 NFBC Cutline Signup Thread
• An official AB is -1, a plate appearance that isn't an official AB (a BB, sac, hpb, etc) is a zero, same as in roto.Steel Lugnuts wrote:I'll eventually sign up for at least one of these, but the scoring in general is kind of wacky. • If a player hits 250 (+4 for the H, -4 for 4 ABs) that is a zero for your scoring, roughly the same value as in roto.
• If a player hits less than 250, it is a negative for your team, same as in roto.
• Singles, doubles, triples all have equal value, same as in roto.
See the pattern?
This is roto-style scoring mathematically converted into points to allow for the best ball nature of the contest without significantly changing the value of the player from what they would be worth in a regular roto league. Wacky would not be a good adjective to describe it unless you also consider roto scoring wacky. Unfamiliar? Yes, we're not used to seeing roto value converted into points. And of course, walks and doubles and triples (in comparison to singles) aren't worthless in reality, because each increases the probably of a Run or RBI which is scored, same as in roto.

Re: 2016 NFBC Cutline Signup Thread
OK, thanks for the clarification/update KJ, that will help many people I would imagine...and you are correct, I'm not familiar with that roto scoring of which you speak, so the scoring is still kind of whacky!
I'm thinking most of the users that join might not be familiar with this scoring either, but I could be wrong.
Also, I knew there was a reason for the scoring!![Wink ;)](./images/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif)

I don't think its been done before, so it's going to be new for everyone. Someone's got to be the trailblazer ... might as well be the NFBC. ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif)

Re: 2016 NFBC Cutline Signup Thread
I will certainly give it a shot this year. I am very attracted to two things:
1. Only having to deal with two FAAB periods for the year, and
2. A draft that only rosters 360 players total (if I understand it correctly. I think it is 10 teams per league for 36 rounds)
Personally, I have a rough time with the Draft Champions league that drafts 750 players deep. My rankings don't even go that far! Before, the only alternative to Draft and hold was to basically join a league with a weekly FAAB, so this will be a nice change of pace.
If I remember correctly, there are also some specials being offered by NFBC for purchasing 3 teams, etc.
Personally, I plan to just use my roto rankings for cutline. It appears that they basically transfer over seamlessly. However, if you have your own advanced cutline-specific ranking that will give you the edge....feel free to jump into a league that you see me in. I wont mind![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

Since I was signed up for the Sunday night auction, which was cancelled again, could you switch me to the Sunday night Jan 24th Cutline draft? I assume I would not have to go in and buy a team for the cutline?

When I click on Contests, shouldn't I see a link to this cutline league?

Steve, I have removed the $125 Auction and added Sunday's Cutline to your team page. You were never charged for the original $125, so all is good. Welcome to the NFBC Cutline Championship and enjoy on Sunday night.Stevekiel wrote:Since I was signed up for the Sunday night auction, which was cancelled again, could you switch me to the Sunday night Jan 24th Cutline draft? At first, I had reservations about point based scoring, but some pretty sharp guys here ran the numbers on this and it's impressive how well they were able to correlate the scoring systems.Steel Lugnuts wrote:I'll eventually sign up for at least one of these, but the scoring in general is kind of wacky. I would agree. Take a look at some of the Cutline draft results and compare them to the Draft Champions results. They are very similar. It will be fun to unveil the ADPs for both this week.Yah Mule wrote:At first, I had reservations about point based scoring, but some pretty sharp guys here ran the numbers on this and it's impressive how well they were able to correlate the scoring systems.Steel Lugnuts wrote:I'll eventually sign up for at least one of these, but the scoring in general is kind of wacky. So far so good. The drafts are getting done anywhere from 2 hours and 15 minutes to 2 hours and 45 minutes. When you get 10 good drafters in a room, these things really cruise. We will learn a lot from this first season and tweak things for next year, but so far so good. Great job everyone.

Re: 2016 NFBC Cutline Signup Thread
Would there be enough interest to fill a 10 or 11pm est start? any night of the week would be ok with me..
Re: 2016 NFBC Cutline Signup Thread
At least one late one a week, during the week, would be great. Out west, these 8 PM (5 PM Pacific) start times are brutally hard to get to.jaked2782 wrote:Would there be enough interest to fill a 10 or 11pm est start? any night of the week would be ok with me..

Re: 2016 NFBC Cutline Signup Thread
Yeah, we can definitely do that. We had good success with the 10 pm ET Cutlines in football. We'll add some late ones for next week and all weeks going forward.Rainiers wrote:At least one late one, once a week, during the week, would be great.
