My last two seasons definitely resemble the saying "you can't win a league with your first few picks, but you can lose it."
If you think this is bad, it was even worse in football, taking Clinton Portis in 2004, Willis McGahee in 2005 and even screwing up the #1 pick this year by taking LJ and not LT.
Dammit, I'm blowing the chance for a great one-liner here as I am having a brain fart thinking of a pitcher that historically struggles in the first inning then settles down.

Todd the year you took Prior first was 2004 , the first year in the NFBC.I had the 11th pick that year and was hoping Prior would make it to me, not even close.I ended up with Delgado , who kind of had an off year , due to injuries.Vernon Wells was my next pick and he had an off year.I finished 2nd in my league the 1st year , but happened to be in Artie Rastelli league.Still remember getting Travis Hafner in the 22nd round.AH , THE OLD DAYS, to the left of me was Primo, and to the right the Sunshine Boys, Don and his wife.Nobody knew anybody, now it's like seeing old friends.I look foward to draft day , every year you meet new friends.

Eddie -- it really doesn't matter but I know for sure I took Pujols at 2 in 2004 -- there's a post on my message board from March 27, 2004 talking about the team. I also don't think I was in Artie's league that year.
My pitching strategy that year was to have 9 solid middle relievers and stream in starters with decent matchups, but I underestimated the quality of available starters to deploy.
The year before, in the "other competition", I was a strict best player available drafter following some research I did. I don't recall my team, but I do know I had my OF and utility filled by round 10 or 11. I cringed when I saw thw quality of outfielders left at the end and realized then there was some finesse to drafting I needed to learn.
So let's review...
2003 - went best player available and could not choose an active OF after round 11 or so
2004 - went with a 9-man relief staff and did not successfully weave in adequate wins and Ks
2005 - went with catchers in rounds 3 and 4
2006 - my first year trying to do what everyone else does, just do it better but was derailed when I opted for Helton at 1.15
2007 - finished second overall to Gekko

New York isn't the same without you...

I know Todd wasnt in that league, but he did draft that year. That was the 1st year and i wanted Prior , lucky for me he was gone.King if i remember right you were at 13 or 14.
King remember the auction that year, Mike Torrez was the guest speaker. Then we almost had that fight over auction prices. That was a crazy year, then one of the guy's passed away that season.
I always felt bad about that. Then we had the team that didnt make it , because the guy got sick on the way there.Remember the guy who had to fill in, he actually came in 2nd.

Though Eddie, you may not realize this but I was right next to the infamous chair incident in the 2004 NFFC.
