Dean and Al do a great job. Friendly guys, make things even more fun, they're part of the group too. Spoke to Dean more this year then ever. He has great story's and even got to tell some of them even with Jay there. Jay was lobbying heavily for me and Doug to go to Vegas with him this week after he found out Dean was going. Was hard to tell him that wasn't going to happen. He gets a bit wound up after about 72 beers.

Another great weekend in Chicago is over.
Both Dave and Coz really covered it well, but I'd like to add a few of my own thoughts.

First, as usual, it's all about the people.
We all love this game, but lets face it, we could do most, in not all of these games online. However, we do these games live because it's as much about the people and the experience as it is about the game.
New York and Vegas may have more people and more parties, but I can't imagine they have a better group of people than we have in Chicago. Equal maybe, but not better ;) .

In particular, I would like to mention a couple of guys.
Coz is a super sharp guy. No wasted thought. If he says something or posts a note on the message board, you need to listen.

I've had a couple of MB interactions with Matt (Ando), but this is the first time we have met. He's a really nice guy and I hope he can make it back to Chicago in the future. He also bought Coz and I breakfast on Saturday morning, which is a big plus. If I'd have known he was buying, I would have added few more items to my order :D .

Jay is a fun guy. He's taken some ribbing here about beer consumption, but it's all in fun. I would hang out with Jay anytime. Unless he starts talking about his man-love for Joe Morgan again, then I'm out!

I sat next to Doug in the auction on Friday night. If anyone wants to learn how to accumulate an auction team, sit next to Doug. Control. Patience. Thought. Strategy.

I got a chance to say hello to Pausma and his daughter. John's NFBC record speaks for itself. If John is bidding on a player that I'm not interested in....it scares the sh*t out of me.

Vander and Geisinger. The two Daves have been super nice to me over the years in the draft room and I look forward to talking with them each year. I hate seeing them in my league though because they whoop my a$$ every year. They know what they are doing.

Jason sat next to me in the auction. One of the best moments of the auction was when he got Schwarber for $24. He say's "finally", then he gets up, takes off his coat and shows off the Schwarber jersey he was wearing underneath.

Diedrich and I battled all weekend. Next year one of us should not be allowed to subscribe to Masterball.

I also got to meet KJ for the first time. It's funny how MB personalities differ from "in person" meetings. KJ doesn't to get around the room much

And all the other regulars..Kim, Vince, Kentucky Bill (great to meet you), Dom and Makula.

I also want to mention one more .....George Kleeman
I once called George the Patriarch of Chicago NFBC, and he is. George hasn't drafted live in a few years, but he came out this year and it was great to see him. Most everyone stopped by to say hello to him and he looked happy and healthy.

I like having the auction and draft at a hotel. It makes it easy to drink, relax, and spend the night after the auction before the Main Event on Saturday.

Image

The Sheraton Northbrook is a fine place to stay, but I think the draft room is just too small.
I like David and Doug and the other guys I sat next to, but I really don't like sitting shoulder to shoulder and knee to knee with people during the draft.

Image

I don't need six feet of room, but I also don't like bumping my right elbow up against the elbow of the lefty next to me every time we cross off names on our list.
The food was OK at best, but from what I've heard about other cities it's standard fair.
I'm not sure what the plans are for Chicago next spring, but I wouldn't be opposed to a different hotel.

Last thing....As usual, Dean Peterson, Al and the guys from Stats did a great job. Everything was run on-time and in order. They answered any questions and are professional about their business. Thanks Dean.

Russell and Vander,

Good luck this year guys! I had gotten a pm from Dietrich about Chicago and I believe this was the first one in seven years that I missed. My son was on spring break last week so travel plans were altered. Drafted online today and wow do I miss the live experience. The online league had a few names I recognized from Chicago- coz and Greg Morgan but I don't really know those guys too well.
I remember battling Vander for Chris Davis last year ... That was one advantage of missing Chicago this year is not facing vander in 2 leagues. On the other hand, I could've used a softie like Russell in my league today :D

Curious to see how your man event teams look. Will check once main event teams are all viewable. Anyways good luck guys . Chicago main always competitive. Duh!

We missed you in Chicago. Matt did pass along your hello.

And yes, considering my first round pick was Pollock  ......I'm already looking forward to donating in 2017.

Was wondering why we didn't see you this year. You really killed me last year we wanted the same guys. Davis, Kipnis, Arrieta, and others. Would like too see you next year but in the other league. Good luck with the online league.
