Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Call me a paranoid Cub fan, but I have been worried about Jake Arrieta since his no-hitter against Cincinnati. Ever since that game, and even during that game, where he threw 119 high stress pitches, his control seems off. While the velocity has remained normal, in the game following the no-hitter vs. Milwaukee he only pitched 5 innings and had 4 BB's to 6 K's. And now in the first inning tonight, he was all over the place with his control and walked two batters. I said to some friends the night of the no-hitter that him having a no-hitter going in that game was the worst thing that could have happened since the Cubs had a huge lead and it would have been a perfect game to pull him early and save some "bullets," as they like to say. Instead, he threw 119 high-stress pitches in a game the Cubs won handily, 16-0. Maybe I'm holding him to a ridiculously high standard of perfection now, but color me officially worried about Jake the Great. Hope I'm wrong.

I hear you. However I believe it's been a bit cold his last 2 starts. If so, he may be having issues with gripping.

Or, per cubs history, tj is around the corner and no ws for you.

Yeah, Arrieta sure sucked tonight. Two hits AND two walks over seven shutout innings! I admit I had a few guys ranked ahead of Arrieta because I was skeptical he could repeat anything close to last season's performance. This game is humbling. So far, the guy is continuing to put up incredible numbers time and time again.

Shifting gears, while I did not expect the Toronto Blue Jays to score more, as many or even close to as many runs as last year, I did expect them to repeat as one of the best offenses in baseball. I'm on a train at the moment and have not looked at any numbers, but they seem to have one of the worst offenses this season with essentially the same lineup! I keep seeing them score a few runs, or less, and often against not-so-great opposing pitchers.

Was just thinking that with tonight being a Tuesday, I miss the NFBC Fanduel contests we had last year.

+1 really enjoyed those as well but understand the decision not to hold those due to the DFS legal mess....

I miss daily period! We have been locked out for a couple of months, but new legislation about to be signed into law that should get our state back in the game.

Verlander and Gray on the same team. Heavy sigh....

Yeah I was hoping for a good outing from Gray but not so much. Price and Gray anchoring my team looked good in March.
