FAAB Deadline In 2017: Is 10 pm ET Right?

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Tue Sep 27, 2016 2:10 pm

There was a discussion in the NFFC this year to move back FAAB one hour to 11 pm ET to help West Coast drafters. Baseball is a little different with one Sunday FAAB compared to our Wednesday and Friday setup in football, but I'll ask the question here as well since we're working on our 2017 rules now.

Should we keep FAAB at 10 pm ET on Sundays in 2017?

or

Would you rather have FAAB at 11 pm ET on Sundays in 2017?

It's tough to get a consensus from a Message Board question, but again I'm looking for some feedback now as we prepare for the next season. Maybe there's no desire for a later FAAB deadline in baseball and 10 pm ET works well for everyone. If that's the case, I'm happy to leave things as is. If there's a strong demand for a later deadline, let's discuss the benefits and see if there is enough interest to move this back an hour.

Thanks for any feedback here.

I like it as is. Allows more time to set lineups the night before some of those early Monday games.

There is less and less day baseball games.
I'd appreciate the extra hour for FAAB.

Being on the East Coast, I have a moderate preference for keeping things the same. Pushing things back an hour, combined with the 15-30 minutes it seems to take for FAAB to run in all leagues, means not finding out FAAB results until 11:15-11:30 pm on a Sunday night, which is starting to get late with work the following morning. Also, presumably like others, I like to set my initial lineups on Sunday nights subject to future tweaking, and pushing FAAB back an hour pushes that task back another hour, too.

All that being said, this is not a huge issue for me, and I could live with whatever most folks prefer.

Strong preference for current 10PM EST deadline for all the same reasons as Mike.

10PM deadline 10:15-10:30 FAAB runs 10:30PM-11PM EST lineups... That feels late enough...

East coast bias. Adding an extra hour for FAAB is an absolute no-brainer decision. People have all night Sunday & all day Monday to set-line-ups after FAAB. Let's not act like most line-up & pitching decisions can't already be made and, then, depending on the 2-3 FAAB acquisitions, can't simply be swapped in some time late Sunday or all day Monday.

This argument that people need to set their line-ups before going beddy-bye on Sunday night is ridiculous & I call BS that people are not constantly checking news and still making line-ups throughout the day Monday prior to when line-ups lock. Further, nothing prevents people from setting line-ups well in advance if that is their desire & then merely add thei new FAAB acquisitions with two clicks of a button. Please, stand up to the establishment & add the extra hour for those of us who like the luxury of having their Sunday nights to do FAAB and not have their spring/summer Sundays encumbered by the onerous & draconian FAAB deadline.

I'm a West Coast guy and I implore you to move it up an hour or two, certainly not back. At very least leave it alone. My mind won't leave it alone until the deadline. When you moved it back two years ago you robbed me of that personal time on Sunday, I'd appreciate that time back, 8 pm EST is my vote.

Avoid west coast bias. 10:00 pm ET is perfectly adequate (I too liked 8:00 better, but understood the change was for the overall good) and fair to both coasts. I go to work very early (like many more I suspect), so to move to 11:00 ET would actually be an unfair advantage to the west coasters in my opinion.
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

This is why I ask. When there are this many varied opinions, then it's best to leave things as they are. We have requests for 8 pm ET, 10 pm ET and 11 pm ET, so I think we'll leave things as they are.

I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing a change that had been requested before. Thanks for the early feedback and keep it coming.

I've grown accustom to the 10:00pm deadline and I like it. It's Goldilocks to me, not too early, not too late, but just right...

My first instinct was to vote "As late as possible". However, the points made by Mike are spot-on.

As long as the gerbils are still running in the FAAB wheel, keep it at 10:00pm EDT.
