MLB Scoring Decision
MLB Scoring Decision
Does anyone know why Brian Shaw was the winning pitcher last night instead of Andrew Miller? By any measure, Miller was the more "effective" pitcher.........
Re: MLB Scoring Decision
Official scorekeeper decision.
The winning pitcher for most official scorekeepers in this situation, is the FIRST reliever who is effective.
Even if the verbiage is 'most effective'.
Some scorekeepers will veer off this path, but for the most part, it is the first effective reliever.
Also, after the first effective pitcher or Shaw's performance, the official scorekeeper may announce to others in the press box that Shaw will be the pitcher of record. Making all pitcher's who follow Shaw and their performance moot for the W.
After this is done, all media will know who the winner will be as the game progresses making it easier to write stories and broadcasting info.
