The only headscratcher for me was Kenley being the fifth closer off the board. I can understand someone liking Chapman and Britton a little more than Jansen, but Melancon and Familia as well? I love the extra Ks you get with Kenley. What am I missing? I'm guessing its something...a lingering injury? a lurking new arm that can challenge Kenley? the Dodgers might chase the free agent Chapman? If anyone is willing, I'd love to hear the rational....
I can't speak for the drafters of any of those Closers, but I was not surprised.
With such an early draft, security is a larger factor than in later drafts when more is known about players.
Kimbrel was a surefire number one Closer. Now, in the A.L., and with some wear and tear, he has fallen dramatically.
Jansen is a sexy pick with k's, but may lose some effectiveness too if he goes to a team less suited for fantasy purposes.
Some players also shift gears after signing a big, new contract.
Some shift to a higher gear, others a lower one.

I agree with dough completely- he is a free agent- and people draft closers to get saves BUT meloncin is a free agent also. in fact- if you get in a draft and start researching- you will find that there are a LOT of free agent closers. that ball is gonna bounce all offseason. PLUS you will again get to read ( by the "expert" on rotoworld) that so and so should be team x's closer because he has the best "peripherals". of course 2 weeks later that same person will write that the pitcher with the best peripherals should pitch in "high leverage" situations- not the 9th. thus contradicting themselves. miller is gonna be example A followed by wade davis followed by giles and on and on we go.

point of fact, miller was drafted as a MR, not a closer.

the person drafting him hates closers and thinks the animals that push them up in drafts should be subjected to a swift kick in the jimmy

just talking in general- not about whether miller should be the closer. One other thing people that drone endlessly about who "should" close might look at is-- how do they pitch with runners on? If miller (an example) is way better than allen with runners on - then that might be why you have allen close. i think teams look at that more than people think.

Regarding Jansen, I kind of figured I might be missing something. And I was. I didn't realize he was a free agent. Of course that devalues him some...thanks guys for the enlightenment.

Can I ask where Schwarber went in this one? Wow, it's going to be interesting to assess his value for 2017.

'Assess his value'......ugh.

Greg, he went at 6.8 in the first draft.
7.8 in the second.
Being eligible at OF only instead of C holds him back from being in Gary Sanchez territory.
