We've seen the official scorer give a win for the most "effective" pitcher in a game where it seems another guy would get the credit but I can't figure out how MLB gives a Hold to Doolittle who came in the game with the score tied. He got the 3rd out and Oakland scored 3 in the bottom of the inning.
Doesn't a hold have to occur in a "save situation" as per the rules?
Seems to me Doolittle got a hold when he should have got the win.
Any experts out there able to set me straight?
Duh?
Re: Dull gets W leaving game tied, Doolittle gets hold?
Wrong again.
The game was not tied. Oakland was up 6-5 when Doolittle appeared.
