Can't make a bad lineup decision when there are no choices.
Anyone else have this on any of their teams? Do you throw someone out in the FA pool that really shouldn't be there because you don't have a choice?
I'll put in context that this is for a satellite team, but still thought an interesting topic to throw out there.
The All DL bench
Re: The All DL bench
I don't think I have any seven DL slot teams currently, but I've got the six disabled and one really shitty guy paradigm nailed.
Re: The All DL bench
After 7 years in the NFBC, I am happy to update, a little over 4 months after this post, that I battled through the injuries and won my 1st non-auction title with this squad. I know some enjoy summaries of squads and others don't, so I'll keep most of the analysis of this squad and FAAB pickups to a minimum. Here it goes:
1 - Carlos Correa - it was between him and Blackmon, and although not the better choice, Correa provided a rock solid year and validated his late 1st round status (even better without the injury)
2 - Noah Syndergaard - disappointing - fought an uphill battle all year with pitching to recover from this loss
3 - Gary Sanchez - is now the #1 catcher without question - shouldn't get out of the 2nd next year
4 - Justin Verlander - was cursing him most of the 1st half and then he turned it on in the 2nd half when I needed it most
5 - Ian Kinsler - hrs and steals to expectations, but way under everywhere else
6 - Seung Oh - didn't have him anywhere and bought into the hype - Kimbrel was the better choice draft day and no question in hindsight
7 - Cole Hamels - what happened to the K's - drop of at least 5 rounds next year
8 - Eduardo Nunez - rock solid production and flexibility before the injuries
9 - Miguel Sano - see Nunez
10 - Carlos Gomez - at times, the Gomez of old, but very few and far between
11 - Greg Bird - see Oh
12 - Jameson Taillon - tale of two seasons before and after cancer - Most important is that he overcame it, and should be interesting to see how he performs next year
13 - Michael Brantley - his usual solid production before injuries
14 - Wellington Castillo - solid #2 C
15 - Brandon Kintzler - one of my best picks - was fortunate to pick up Doolittle in FAAB to replace him after the trade
16 - Marcell Ozuna - THE best pick - a major reason for many league titles this season, including mine
17 - Kevin Pillar - didn't bounce back like I thought he would
18 - Ivan Nova - was smart enough to bench him when he ran out of gas - solid 1st half
19 - Jose Reyes - he was long gone before he became fantasy relevant
20 - David Peralta - solid year
21 - Joe Musgrove - I thought he would be better
22 - Adam Ottavino - early drop
23 - Tyler Skaggs - early drop
24- Steven Souza - power and speed solid - could be a guy that makes the leap towards elite status next season
25 - Chris Carter - early drop, not early enough (see pick 30)
26 - Daniel Hudson - early drop
27- Avisail Garcia - with Peralta, stability for my OF all year
28 - Mike Fiers - see Musgrove
29 - Jed Lowrie - an unsung hero of this squad - with all of the injuries, he seemed to come up big every time I needed him to.
30 - Ryan Zimmerman - dropped before the season for Logan Morrison - other than avg, pretty much a wash
Key FA
JIMMY NELSON - in all caps for a reason. This guy saved my pitching, and most 5th days, was the ace of my staff.
Luis Castillo - although only a little over 60 innings, they were gold
Josh Bell & Rafael Devers - added stability to the lineup in the 2nd half
Sean Doolittle/Trevor Rosenthal - rock solid ratios to add with the saves
Thanks for the read and looking forward to seeing everyone in NY next season.
